Which Inks Are You Using Today?

So far, it's been some unidentified black ink (although very likely something like Quink Black) which got reconstituted when I started flushing out the Parker 61 I bought at the OPS last month. [i should note that I got the ink started flowing just the one time, and the pen is still writing great, even though it got unused for over a week over Thanksgiving; you gotta hand it to the engineers at Parker on those capillary fillers.... :D]

So far it's been Noodler's Shah Rose, some unidentified sample that's a dark blue (possibly diluted) which even Ink Nix can't get off my fingers :o, and some diluted KWZI Chicago Blue.

Looks like I'm possibly flushing at least one pen today... (it depends on what Shah's Rose looks like when diluted with distilled water -- I hadn't used it for a couple of years so I can't remember). Still trying to make up my mind about the unidentified blue: it's in that Korean made Pilot which apparently has a Con-20 converter in it (so it doesn't hold that much ink) -- BUT it's got an Asian F or EF nib so it's very stingy with ink (so writing it dry may take awhile....

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I was going to bring Lamy Petrol again, to see how it's settling into the M150, but at the last moment I decided to bring Dark Forest instead. Which, co-incidentally, is also in an M150. :)

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Spent some of my Christmas money on green inks, looking for the perfect one for my Montegrappa Extra 1930 in bamboo. In yesterday's mail: Callifolio Olivastre, Bung Box 88, Bung Box Light Soup, Kobe #19, and Monteverde Olivine. I think I'll try them with a dip pen first, just to speed up the process.

Right now the Montegrappa has Stipula Calamo Musk Green in it--it's a fantastic color as well, especially with the broad nib.

Can't help mentioning how perfect L'Artisan Pastellier Brun Ors looks in my Pelikan M620 Piazza Navona. It's like they were made for each other.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
