Contest! Fp "inspiration"

Recommended Posts

It's time for another Fountain Pen Contest!

This time the theme will be... Inspiration

The contest will run from October 1 through October 31, 2012.

The results will be announced on Saturday November 3, 2012.

There will be 12 judges giving points to their top 12 choices. Points will range from 1 - 100.

Prizes will be a nice assortment of pens from a variety of donors. Photos of each prize pen will be posted over the course of the month with the name of donor (unless otherwise specified). We already have three pens that are quite nice; I hope to pick up a few more from our friends at the San Francisco Pen Show this week!

If YOU would like to donate a pen let me know with a photo via email (pb@pendletonspens.com). thumbup.gif

The rules are simple.

1 ~ Fountain Pen(s) and ink(s) only ~ Pens and inks should be named or even pictured for maximum points.

2 ~ Post your entries on this this thread ( trying not to quote this lead posting rolleyes.gif ... yawn ...)

3 ~ The handwritten or drawn content must be inspirational. Yes, that leaves it pretty open; except we must abide by FPN rules (nothing that could be considered naughty or overtly "religious"). Moderators can chose to bounce an entry that does not abide. :) It can be original or otherwise and should be so noted. Write something of truth, something noble, right, pure, admirable, virtuous and praiseworthy.

Unadorned example:

Kindly let me know if I have left anything unexplained, and I will attempt to do so.

Enjoy!

Very cool so far! thumbup.gif

Additional notes from question asked:

More than one entry is OK. Try to keep variation on same theme a genuine variation.

Judges will be encouraged to consider content as well as execution.

Keep 'em coming!

Here's my entry! Probably not my only one, but my first submission to the thread. :)

The text comes from a truly inspiring mellow song entitled "Your Universe."

Here's my entry. Sorry, but I had to break it up into multiple images -- the file was too large, even after I tried to crop it....

Oh, BTW, the paper is Xerox 24 lb. 96 bright Multipurpose Plus paper.

Fun contest. It's going to be interesting to see what other people's entries will be over the next few weeks.

And if we *can* enter more than once, I just might be... inspired  ....

Inspired by a Sheaffer Prelude (2mm stub, I think), Rotring 1.5mm stub, Aurora Ipsilon Deluxe w/ 14k italic nib, and a collection of Levenger inks. (What fun!)

Like WoW! We have had some sweeeet entries since San Francisco held me in it's fond embrace. cloud9.gif Gotta love that city with a heart beat.

OK, we are looking good! Bertram Oser of Bertrtam's Inkwell will be donating a nice prize Pen, and two of the judges are going to Prize their favorite entry with nice pens.

Keep up the sweet inspiration!

Playing with a vintage Pelikan 120 (love that springy Swiss nib) and Platinum Carbon ink, Sheaffer Prelude & Levenger Cocoa ink, Rotring & Levenger Cardinal Red, and Aurora Ipsilon Deluxe italic with Campo Marzio Roma Azul Marino ink.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this thread and have appreciated everyone's entry.

inky_artist, my jaw dropped when I saw your journal. Wow. Is that a generally daily habit for you, or just special occasions?

rvisser, that's a lovely pairing of Ahab barrel and ink colors.

Mitch

PS: Maybe I'll overcome my intimidation and work up my own entry.

Well, Mitch, if I look at it right every day is a special occasion.

Over the years I have gifted this book more than any other. And even if one don't speak the language, this bit of French is worth taking to heart. (Translation: "Here is my secret, it is very simple: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.")

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
