Kapacitor Primum

Dear Fountain Pen Network members and Pen Community.

This is my last pen project.

Finally had time to make a small pen series. In the past was only making custom pens, but got the time to make these and will focus in pen making from now, offering some new models.

These pens were made with the following goals, a pen easy to operate, self filling, good ink capacity, reliable and to be maintained by the owner with no complication.

One of the worries was to make a pen with the less components to make it more reliable, less parts less problems.

The base of the filling system is the one used on the Dunn and Omas Lucens, but modified to improve filling operation and maintenance.

The number of strokes is four to five to fill the chamber with 3 ml, and the same to empty the pen, what makes this pen very easy and fast to fill.

Ink capacity can be increased to 4 ml, but the pen would be heavier and 3ml is more than enough to ensure a long period between refills.

All the joints are sealed with o-rings, no shellac or any other sealants is on use on the pen.

Threading on the turning knob gives a good closing and fast screwing and unscrewing action to make easy and comfortable the filling operation.

Cumberland ebonite was used together with some vintage parts, like the ebonite feed, gold plated brass clip, gold plated Bock nib.

Pump is made in black celluloid, choosed due to the elasticity and strength of this material.

This model is called the Primum, the first one made to offer to sell in a small series, like previously mentioned.

Capped 138mm, uncapped 107mm from the front part of the section to the barrel end, 131mm from the tip of the nib to the barrel end, posted 169mm, cap od 15,33mm, barrel od 13,80mm booth on the widest section.

Pen only posts in the threaded part of the cap to prevent splits on the cap border and it's firm in post position.

Each one is handmade with no CNC intervention.

To repair there is no need for tools, maybe a rubber strap for more grip.Barrel is composed by 3 parts plus 2 o-rings, excluding the section part.

Only 12 will be made, each one engraved with numbers from 1 to 12 and the year production 2012 represented 01/12 to 12/12, also the number of pens made.

Thank you for looking.

Victor

Interesting filling system - one that will likely appeal to quite a few people here given the ink capacity. It's a gorgeous pen...now if only I had that much money to spare...

Beautiful. Classic. Well-proportioned. Thoughtful. Desirable.

Very nicely done!

Beautiful pen.

Is the thread holding the pump an acme or square thread of some kind? I have seen taps for some but never a die. Is it lathe cut?

Hello Pete,

All threading is cut on the lathe and no taps or dies were used.

Best,

Victor

That looks absolutely fantastic! If it we're in my budget right now, I'd be on the list for that pen! Great job.thumbup.gif

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
