Hi Parcival

I have never heard of Dignitar and it sounds not very German to me. Do you know who made the pen?

It has a gold nib - Reform.

I bought it with this nib at a flea market from a foreigner - a Romanian or Serb, i'm not sure.

Hi Parcival

Reform nib? Yes that is a good adress! Reform made good safety fountainpens during the 20th. Is there any sign of an emblem or symbol? I must confess I had never heard of Dignitar Pen but this could be an export trade mark. There had been many brands in this 8- facetted style, like Mercedes, Clio, Matador and others. During the 20th Montblanc was only one among numerous competitors. Nobody had an interest to make a n MB similar fountainpen

(quote: The pen resembles the Montblanc safety. So I think it's German./quote)

Kind Regards

Thomas

I looked at the nib in more detail - certainly changed, Reform 14C-585 Germany /from 70's/.

Marks only - Dignitar pen and 396 /foto/.

It really is possible to be made for export.

Nothing like adding to a thread a year later--hope it is useful to someone--I've found a lot of good info searching FPN in the past and like to add to it when I can.

I have picked up a couple of this maker's pens (whoever they are)--both have the same clip with a leaf-like image on them and a 14C warranted nib marked with a circle divided into 6 parts like a pie.

The big black piston filler has no textual markings (and looks a lot like a Matador Superior which is why I picked it up) the other is marked on the cap and clip as Controllor. I suspect the original poster's Reform nib was a replacement, but I could be wrong.

Attached are some pics to show the details I'm talking about..

The 2 pens:

The clip showing the word Controllor on it as well as the leafy shape at the end.

The nbs with the pie-shape on them.

Again, I don't know if Dignitar was a pen-maker or not, or just a reseller, but here's a pen on Ebay labeled as a Dignitar again with the same marks on the nib and clip, although it has a different looking piston exterior than mine:

I copied a couple of images from the listing.

First image you can see the pen is labeled as Dignitar Pen.

Second Image you can see the same nib (better picture than mine):

Third image is the complete pen where we can see that leafy ended clip:

Adding to the mistery... another Dignitar Pen , a BCHR safetyfiller pen, from the way its built pretty sure a German pen - Nib as well points to German make, as its a nib made in Hamburg by the company Pluma - they also made nibs for Astoria. Many nibs of this style you find on Astoria subbrand pens.

Strange though the imprint Dignitar Pen U.S.A.

Hi Tom,

That's interesting.

I wonder if the inscription on your pen says USA though--that middle character looks more like a "P" than an "S" to me, although honestly, even the "P" is a bit of a stretch.

This pen has the same warranted nib with the "pie" symbol as the Dignitar pens but has the imprint "National Juwel", which I believe is meant as "National" being the German manufacturer and "Juwel" (Jewel) being the model. Lovely pen, piston filler but only adds to the mystery?

DIGNITAR PEN

Miroslav Tischler wrote in his book about Penkala (1990s) that it was a shop or enterprise in Zagreb:

Dignitar pen, 1930s founded in street: Smiciklasova, Owner Vilim Rosenberger, existing till 1941.

I have some of those pens, some are German like National, others ?

I think it is a shop label, like Kunstmann in Munich

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
