This is my first pen show and I am very excited. I am also interested in mechanical pencils. Will there be any mechanical pencils for sale at the show?

Yes, you should have no trouble finding both vintage and current production pencils for sale.

Standing at the door, taping fingers on glass, saying

OPEN OPEN OPEN

I just showed my age if anyone recognizes that!

Yes! We will have a room on the 2nd floor on Thursday evening for a pre-show get together.

People should expect to arrive between 5 and 6PM and we'll wrap it up when no one's left -- usually around 8 or 9PM.

Look for signs identifying the room or ask at the front desk.

If you signed up for the Meetup group for the Dallas Pen Club, there should be an invitation with an RSVP in your inbox.

Dallas Pen Show Pre-show Get Together

Can't wait!!! bunny01.gif bunny01.gif bunny01.gif

Thanks for reminding everyone.

Please, if you plan to attend the show, sign up at

and say you are going to the show. No charge to sign up on Meetup and say you are going (admission is at the door of the show, of course).

We're using Meetup.com to try to reach more local pen lovers who have yet to discover the show. Bigger numbers on Meetup.com will help prove that we have a show worth attending.

it's going to be my first time there. I am excited. will there be opportunity for visitor to do a sale or trade? Kind of need to offload some pens to make room for new ones!

I'd be interested to know myself. Any veterans out there know?

I am getting SO PUMPED!! My first pen show!

Stay addicted, Penlovers!

I don't see why you couldn't do some trading or selling with folk on the side - but I wouldn't do so close to vendor tables. That would be pushing it, and kind of rude.

Just a guess though.

Here's the general wisdom on how to do business at a pen show when you don't have a table:

  • By all means, you are welcome (even encouraged ;)) to sell or trade pens with table holders (dealers).
  • You can buy, sell and trade with individuals (other non table holders) at the show, but not in front of someone's table. Be respectful of the people who paid for tables.
  • Never butt in on a deal (especially between a table holder and a customer). Wait until the customer has walked away from the dealer's table before asking that customer if they're interested in what you have.
  • Don't set up a sales display on the floor in an empty corner of the show room or in the hallway outside the showroom.
  • Don't walk around the show with a sign on your chest or back advertising pens for sale.

That's exactly what I meant to say. Susan Wirth gave me a bit of an education on this at the Arkansas show this year. :P

Yahoo! Four days of work, and then the fun begins. It's nice that the hotel is right on my way home from work. I'll be there Thursday evening for the meet up -- I already rsvp'd, and I'm taking a vacation day on Friday.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
