Review Requests

Hi fountain pen enthusiast, here to try and be an aid to the network. I work at a pen store in Toronto and have developed a little manic for pens. If any of you are interested in getting a review on a pen I'll leave a list of brands that the store carry and write up a review. And if you anyones that's in the Toronto area and are looking a specific name brand, I have a good range of pen stores that I can help direct to if I don't carry the line of pen.

And if you want a review that isn't a fountain pen msg me too, I've played with ALL the pens in the store and also do minor repairs and modifications. I leave the major surgery to my good friend Bob Bridge probably the best in Toronto.

Lines that I carry:

Faber Castell

Graf Von Faber Castells

Porsche Design

Lamy

Visconti

Aurora

Conway Stewart

Conklin

OMAS

Jean Piere Lepine

Waterman

Waldmann

Parker

Dupont

Monteverde

Online

(rare occasions)

Rotring

Platium

Cross

Recife

Montegrappa

Stipula

Vintage pens

Hero

Cheers,

Tien

Looking at the list, the Waldman & Dupont would be a neat reviews. I've seen these pens on an auction 'site and would enjoy hearing more about them. Thanks.

I'd be interested in a review on the Montegrappa Miya especially with respect to the Montegrappa Symphony.

Oh Montegrappa Miya... what a pen. One my good friend, brought that pen in for repair... His wife bought it for him in Mexico and he claims that the flow had problems. There was no problems at all it was all in his head.

I'll ask to borrow his pen and take some pictures to post. He still thinks there are problems with the pen and wants to trade it in for another Graf Von Faber Castell Platium Ebony FP... (i'm going to do an in depth review on the Graf pens) I really can't explain what's going on with his pens because it seems like almost everyone of his pens, of the under his office writing conditions skip for no apparent reason... even his parker 51 (Broad), the only pen that survives his office is his Lamy 2000.

Anways back to my experiece with Montegrappa Miya...

It isn't a long pen aproximately the same size as Faber Castell E-motion FP. The weight of the pen really complements the 18k nib, and very well balanced with or without the cap.

I have a Montegrappa Private Reserve which has the same nib as his Miya (Medium) and because of how the weight is balanced with Miya, writing with it felt smoother than my Reserve. And to test my weight theory I swapped the nib and Miya still felt smoother than my Reserve.

Miya's 18k nib I've seen on several other Montegrappa pens. The nib is semi flex, quite generous on the tipping of the nib (round), and is probably the smoothest nib i've ever written with. It felt like the gold was melting on paper.

It is definitely a recommended pen for those who like weight, medium grip, and a person who writes strenuously because this pen will perform and give you an enjoyable time with any paper work ;) A writer that owns Dupont, or Cartier would like this pen's feel.

... I was just thinking to make a little comment on the Miya but I couldn't resist.

Sorry i haven't played with Montegrappa Symphony but from the looks of it on Pen World it has the same nib as Miya and it's longer, very semilar to my Private Reserve in length. Probably lighter than my Reserve which is made of Sterling Silver... I'll have to get my hands on Symphony one day.

tienlong, thank you for your review. I'd wish I had the money to buy this beauty. My favorite color is the turquoise. But alas I have spent so much money on pens last year that I must be careful.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
