To Buy Or Not To Buy ... Montblanc

I have always been a Montblanc snob... saying that they were overpriced and not worth it...but... In a recent topic, I did admit that if the price were right, I would take a closer look. So, somebody offered a "Montblanc Meisterstück Le Grand Fountain Pen and Meisterstück Le Grand Rollerball Pen" set It is a 2006 set and it is in good order.... the best part... $125. Is it worth the plunge. That would be my pen money for a few months... and my wife would probably tell me that it is my Christmas present too... What is the word... take the plunge... or stand my stodgy anti-MB stance...

Go for it! If it is a real one you won't need a new pen anyway! You will have plenty to enjoy and play with!

yes definitely, provided it is an authentic set.

Easily worth the price, in fact doubled it would be a bargain, so, follow Hari's indication. Verify authenticity.

Well, the fountain pen looks legit. Can't comment on the roller ball. I'd say it's worth a shot but I'd pay using PayPal or a credit card just to be safe.

Hari's right, it is a 149! The deal is now unbelievably sweet!

If you trust this seller and get these pens, you are so lucky.

what is the easiest way to tell if they are real? He says they are 2006...

FPN Members, Jar and Hari, know their pens. If the pens in the photos are the pens you will receive, you can proceed with confidence. Those pens look authentic.

What a steal. I would have sent my money by now, plus a bonus, out of guilt.

I'd go out of my way to kick a MB but I think even *I* would have gone for that deal.

That is a sweet deal.

I do understand, though, the "fear" of "are they real".

It's me or the rollerbal is not the 146 as say but a 144???the screw lock is greater on the 146!but may be it's me don't see well on the picture.......i hope so for you

it's a very sweet price when you think that new it is

-525€ for a 146 FP

-620 for a 149 FP

-305 for a 146 roller

-290 for a 144 roller

for me it's a 149 FP and a 144 roller so it make 910€ but it's the price new evidently and yours seems deteriorated...but autentics so if i was you i'ld buy them withouth hesitations! You'll see they are nice and smooth writers and you'll see it's like a drug to write with them!

A people can be great withouth a great pen but a people who love great pens is surely a great people too...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
