Not everybody is willing to register & submit to the commercialism of Facebook.

Surely FPN is the best venue & focus for news of meetings planned for Brisbane. Please, is someone - anyone - willing to post details of upcoming meetings?

I agree with that... not keen on providing FB with my personal data for marketing and world domination!

But I retire next month and probably should do something constructive to keep my brain working, so a Brisbane meeting could be advantageous.

Glenn.

You're right we should use this site to share information about the Brisbane Group.  Happy to be the conduit.  If anything it will make me visit here more often.  I always come here for help so it will be my turn to add something of value. ;-)

I'll pop onto FB tonight and copy across some of the discussion that's relevant to Brisbane.

Back soon.

Thanks RedDingo, if you would continue to post details re future meeting dates it would be much appreciated.

It's nothing short of a mystery why the Brisbane Fountain Pens group choose not to use the most obvious place (Ie: FPN) to attract attendees. It's illogical not to use this exceptional resource.

Hi ian1964, glad you can join us.  As I mentioned earlier there should be a meeting next month.  Being retired, I have more time than most and enjoy meeting people interested in pens.  If you can't make it to the meets or would like to catch up sooner then let me know.  I'm mostly interested in restoring vintage pens simply because they're the ones I can afford.  I also enjoy passing on my skills and knowledge in maintenance and repairs so that others can benefit.

Cheers . .

Danny

I'll try to make it too.  Depending on finances, which at the moment aren't good ...

Looks like I'll be able to make it.  I'm able to do nib adjustments and simple grinds (anything that doesn't require any electric tools!) as well if you have scratchy or otherwise uncooperative nibs ...

Looking forward to Saturday and meeting some fellow FP nutters!

Edit: P.S. No charge.

Hi effrafax,

I will bring along my new nib block which was made in a Brisbane foundry last weekend.  Hi-Tensile and Hi-Impact slate bonded epoxy at only 200g.

The block has 2 sets of both concave and convex channels 110mm long, covering diameters ranging continuously from 7mm to 12mm and 5mm to 8mm.

You're welcome to try it out, I will be interested in your comments.

cheers . .

The Brisbane Fountain Pen (facebook) meetup's are held on weekends so some people may not able to attend.  I'm organising monthly mid-week meetups to improve access and spread the benefit of the weekend meets.  The first one will be held in Beenleigh (for six months) and progressively including other regions.  Where do you want me to run the meets?

This first free meetup supported by Logan City Council will be help in the Beenleigh Library on Wednesday 11th October (2017) from 12:45 - 2:45pm.

This is a casual meet so if you don't have a pen we can talk about the best ones to start, or you can bring along your pens and we can explore what you use it for, experiences (good or bad), and issues, and where to go to get them fixed.

If you're pens are clogged and haven't been working for years, this is an opportunity to have those pens writing again and get some advice on how to clean and store pens properly.

I will have a stash of my own pens to repair so you can help/watch or bring along your own pens.

On display in the Library for the month (October) will be: my own vintage pen collection; pen creations made locally; and some from a local indigenous artist.

Also on display is a collection of fake Montblancs so you can see what happens to them after 10 years.  Please don't buy them because they're cheap and want to see how they compare.

Bookings can be made here or on Facebook (https://goo.gl/Vseo4B).

I hope to see you there.

on Wednesday 11 October (2017) 12:45 PM - 2:45 PM.
