Lamy Studio Imperial Blue

I gotta break up this love fest but I found this Lamy to be one of the poorest handling pens that I have ever had or tried. The mentioned grip slipping is the big deal breaker. and the shape of the section also promotes even more slipping and mishandling. Sad, because I really like the looks of this pen and if it wasn't for the fact that the nibs are sometimes problematic then this pen would be a great pen.

 

I also bought it for the wonderful color as I also find the black version very boring. I am going to ink it up again and see if there is a solution to the slipping or way to handle it that will give me more control. I looked at possibly changing the section with the black version but it would clash with the design of the pen and render it a bit homely. If all else fails, this pen will go on the sales block along with its sibling, a Vista.

The Studio is one of those pens I'm not quite sure about. I don't have problems with my fingers slipping on the grip, but I find myself continually re-adjusting the way I hold it because it never seems to be quite right. When I first had the Studio I thought it felt comfortable and enjoyed using it. Once it finished its first cartridge it went out of my rotation while I concentrated on other things. I've recently got it back in rotation and it takes me a long time to get used to it and as soon as I switch to another pen for a while, the Studio just feels wrong.

 

I've found the durability of the finish less than impressive as well. The finish is already starting to flake off and that's on a pen that's not even been through two cartridges, is always kept in a pen case and has never been dropped or knocked against anything.

Thanks for your experiences with this pen Zanshin. It gives me some concern as I've got a couple of Studio's on order but I've ordered the brushed steel models so hopefully won't have same issues with the finish as you.

I just bought mine in black. Filled it up with Montblanc toffee brown and couldn't be happier. I have a M nib, but I'd rather have M than F anyway. Maybe I'll post a review…

As for the finger slippage, I posted my review of my black version and flight878 posted that he had sanded the section down to what looks like a brushed metal section. It looks very Lamy 2K.

nice ben but bad grip section.its steel & slipery.not good for long writing session.

I did not find it slippery even with the polished section.
