"A Sienna Too Far"

"Sienna is too far. We'll never make it before dark."

"[sigh]..."

"What!? I don't want to figure out parking outside the city and how to get to our hotel in the dark!"

"Where do we stay then?"

"I don't know."

"I want a divorce."

"What?!?"

"Not now. After it's dark."

I think I finally found a format that matches my short attention span. I'll let others play now.

This one's a touch over 50...

Sunday

"Daddy here?"

"You know how your father is. He's working nights."

"Yeah. They gon' put me on the road crew. Might even reconsider my parole."

She looked at her son, framed by plate glass.

"I love you," she said, and touched the glass like she always did. "See you next Sunday."

No, that's not blood. That's Noodler's Antietam.

Satisfied, she gently closed the careworn paperback and relaxed in her narrow bed. As the afterglow of a well told story faded, her reverie soured. No regrets, she tried to tell herself. She wondered where her children were and remembered with a pang that her mother had died alone.

This is great. I think I prefer the stories with little or no dialogue.

We met whilst playing cards, it was Solo Whist.

I t washought that we may just have needed two hearts and a diamond.

After one too many failed bids it now looks like I am facing a club, followed by a spade.

She asked, "Will your bid be Misère Ouverte?"

Another low, guttural warning. Primitive. Even a tiny bit fearful, maybe. Someone less familiar with these trees may have mistaken it for a distant thunder. The girl tightened her shawl and adjusted her basket. Cursing the snow that amplified her footsteps. "Won't be long now," she thought.

No, that's not blood. That's Noodler's Antietam.

I love it!

What’s that familiar scent? It’s that girl in red again! She and her grandmother were nothing but trouble. What kind of fool would I have to be to fall for that old con again? Honey trap indeed. Wait, what’s that smell coming from the basket? Maybe just one quick peek.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
