Lamy Safari Colours

By the way, my favorite color is the Lime Green, and the Raspberry and the Aluminum for the Al-Star. Gigi

I just got a lime green safari and I couldn't be happier with it. While Lamy only made this pen in medium/fine points, Swisher pens replaced the stock M with an EF nib at no extra charge. Filled it with Standard green for the first time today and I love it!

Raspberry looks great too, you're right.

Yes, they are really nice colors. Got the Lime one in Broad, Fine, and Extra-fine nibs.

My favorite is the extra-fine. I only use the medium and broad points for certain things such as writing on a postcard with big letters. But don't like them for everyday writing.

The Raspberry Al-Star is really nice. The only problem is that if it gets scratched the paint comes off. I believe the only Al-Star that doesn't have that problem is the Aluminum one. I have one that has some scratches and it appears there is no paint on it so you hardly notice the scratches.

I wish Lamy made more pens with bright and pretty colors such as the lime one. The blue and the red look better in pictures but their colors are a bit dull. Would like to get my hands on one of the Orange pens that have been discontinued! :puddle: Gigi

Very interesting thread.

Every time when I walk by a stationary store, I would go in and have a look at fountain pens. Occasionally they have discontinued Safaris. I got a white Safari MP last time to match my white MP.

If I remember correctly, there was a grey Safari which I think was discontinued. If you're looking for a grey Safari, PM me and I'll see if it is still available.

You can order the Griso/Grey model piece-by-piece if you go to LamyUSA's site:

I just got mine in the mail :)

Wow that's clever. I decided I really like the griso about one second after the last one in Classifieds was sold. Hmmm...thinking about it... thinking about it...

What's the LOWEST you've paid for a Lamy? Outside of eBay - where some can be found at what I would call a reasonable price - how much? US sellers like to lurk near the $30 range. At least the few I've seen. Thanks!

I have found some of the common (non-LE, currently-produced) colors on sale from time to time from places like Swisher Pens or Pendemonium. I believe I paid around $20-22 for the red FP.

I just ordered the Lime from Pencity.com for $21.73 (no association), with the converter and shipping I think it was about $34 (lowest price I could find) - and a nifty stub nib is on it's way from Tristan (FPNs vermiculus)

Around 2006, the Japanese magazine (or, to better name it the mook) "Shumi no Bungubako" got what appear to be a Lamy Griso with the mook name inscribed. Since we have the Al Star with the signature mentioned I guessed it was worth posting.

Here's the pic:

We should add Pink to the list now!

Thanks for posting the interesting Griso!

Ipod white and Ipod black

Do Lamy actually call these "Ipod white" and "Ipod black", or is that an invention of the shop?

Most likely an invention of the shop. Apple wil not be amused when they find out. They are very serious about "protecting" their brand.

I've seen mention of a Lamy Safari in Lilac, but can anyone confirm if there has been a purple Lamy Safari?

There was discussion about Lilac in the past, though in the AL-Star line. However, I am of the belief that this is not a distinct, "official" color. Some of the silverblue AL-Stars have a bit of a color shift in certain light that some folks interpret as Lilac. If you read back to the beginning of this thread, you will see some discussion of whether there is a distinct Lilac pen.

I don't think there has been any purple Safari.

Yep, Greg's right. I have one of these mysterious, seller-described "Lilac" Al-Star pens and it's just a SilverBlue pen that is a bit off-color. Mine came from Thailand, IIRR. It's definitely different from my other SilverBlue, but the effect is quite subtle; definitely not a unique color.

Here's a quick shot I took of a pre-release Pink Safari:

(I did ask if I could keep it but the answer was a resounding "no".)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
