Got a Pilot Parallel yesterday from my friend (1.5mm)! First time trying italic today (I just looked at an example lol). Where could I learn properly (preferably for free hahaha)?

Great! We're back online again. Thank you to those of you fixing the FPN site!

Waiting for the network, I played with some of my vintage toys:

Hi all, we are going to have a lot of catching up to do! I wonder if everyone has missed FPN as much as I have?

Three cheers for Wim who caught FPN just as it was slipping over the precipice and, with Herculean effort, set us back on stable ground.

Oh, it's good to "see" you here again. I've really missed the network. Thank you FPN Admin and Moderator Team

for fixing it!

Thank you, Pterodactylus! Nice pen and ink! I have just ordered a Pelikan 400 with OBB nib, my very first broad nib. I'm really looking forward to try it :)

If you think everything is going well... you obviously have no idea what is really going on!

I went to my first pen show over the weekend. The Chicago Pen Show. I met so many genuinely nice people! I was there specifically to find vintage flex nib pens. My wife and I browsed for two days and found these. I underestimated the difficulty in finding nice wet noodles. We must have looked at thousands of pens.

Uncle Red, thanks for the concern. I'm doing ok, and the snow is even melting some.

I inked a few pens over the past few days since I had some extra time:

00Photo, I soooo wish I could have made it to the Chicago Pen Show! It's the closest show to where I live but still 8 hours away. Maybe next year!

(edited to add: if I'd been there I'm sure I would have been racing to the bank this morning to cover an unhealthy level of expenditures. Looks like you made quite a haul!)

Prvt Toter, great drawings! I've had days like that, more than I'd like to recall.

OOPhoto, those are some great pens! You certainly know what to do with them. BTW, is that a Waterman 12 or a 12 1/2?

Yeah Ken, Cleo Skribent makes some really nice stuff. I'm loving the Classic.

DC, glad to hear you're well. Given how much snow was on the ground melting is for the best. Did you watch the FP Geeks this last Sat? Dan said they were still getting snow in Iowa.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
