GP, if you want to see what John Mottishaw can do with a Nakaya BB nib, take a look at the pics on this thread. I can't recommend the nib or John's work highly enough.

Beautiful, beautiful pen. I think a Nakaya (specifically a blackish red Neo Standard) is the only pen I'd spend a week's wages on.

Enjoy

Yummy!

I'm still concerned that my fingers would be back behind the threads and up against the section step, given my writing stance. :bonk: :gaah:

Oh, you'd be surprised at the similarity between Nakaya pens & potato chips - you can't have just one! ;)

congrats on a nice nakaya

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

The beauty part about Nakaya is that there is no need; it is all desire, sublime desire.

We are going to indulge something -- we are only human -- so why not something as beautiful and useful as Nakaya?

Lovely pen. I have the exact same pen! Last year I was just about to place an order for a different Nakaya, when I saw this model and immediately changed my order. The design is much better without the clip. Its wonderful to hold...

Just when I thought I was safe....this thread is back up on top of the forum section....sucking me back in.

Having the Heebie Jeebies now. (I really have no idea what the Heebie Jeebies are, but remember my grandma said that).

Doug, I have the single pillow done in matching aka tamenuri that I got with my cigar long. What is that multiple pen pillow you show in your collection, and where did you get it? It doesn't look quite as dark as my single one.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

If I was rich, I'd have one of these for each of my fingers. And toes, if that's allowed.

OK Mr. Fancypants.....how come you don't have this in your signature yet if it is so great? :ltcapd:

Oh, one would do. I'd just put it on the desk and meditate on it.

You mean how come I don't have a Nakaya Decapod? If that's what you mean, I do. I just did not put it in my signature line yet. I did this review.

No, I'm trying to pick nits finding a reason....any reason....to not lose control and buy one....and so if it's not great enough to be put in your own signature, then I have picked a nit to sustain my weakening resistance. See the logic?

Ohhhh, I get it. Yeah I've been down that trail myself. For the life of me I was not going to buy one, beacuse my very good friend had one, or maybe two. Then our other friend got one. What was I to do?? But I was going to hold my ground! Then I was proud of myself when one came up for sale on FPN and I did not buy it, but it was the right price. Just not the right pen. But I held my ground! Until this one showed it's ugly head last week. It had the right price, and worst, the right colors and the right pen. I felt like the Titantic! I was going down and going down hard. So I bailed as much water as I could as fast as I could, and it did'nt work so I gave in and bought the _______ thing! How do I feel now that I bought it. I'm dam happy. I keep it on my desk, out of it's Kimono where I can look at it all day LONG. And then if I need to make a note, it's the first pen I grab. My POOR Danitrio's are feeling so bad now a days as they are just sitting there feeling left out. But the newness just has to wear off and I'll be back to writting with all three again.

Sam, It is a Nakaya as well. I can't remember if I got it straight from Nakaya or from John M. At the time, it was $20 for a single, and $25 for a triple.

I would guess that the color difference is due more to my rotten photos than any big change to the Urushi (although they do differ to a degree).

I also have a couple of Dani Trio double pen rests, but they are laquered wood.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
