Greetings! This is a long-overdue review, not of a pen or ink, but of Mauricio Aguilar of Vintagepen.net. Mauricio has been a pleasure to work with throughout every step of my three transactions with him. Those three will not be the last! If you are looking for vintage flex, begin here. You will not find a better deal. Ebay may be cheap in dollars, but it cannot match the stellar services of a professional like Mauricio.

According to the latest info on his webiste, he now offers vintage flex nibs fitted into TWSBI bodies. I have not tried one, but Mauricio will not sell a pen that does not work well, and I can attest from personal experience that he stands behind his work.

If you have acquired a vintage flex pen that needs repair, Mauricio can do that, too, and for less cost than one would expect. I sent him a battered Waterman 52 that I stumbled across, and he made it look and write like new. We are trying to source a correct clip so we can say it is 100% restored, but it writes beatifully without a clip.

Mauricio has many pens that are not listed on his site, so send him an email at vintagepen@att.net if you are looking for something specific.

the pens in your photo are drool-worthy puddle.gif

clap1.giffor your wonderful review!

am I seeing the pen with repousse (all over top?) has rings on the side?

Thank you for your kind words. I wish I had a camera that would do the pens justice! Yes, the rings on the Swan pen are on the sides of the cap. They attach to a short chain that could be used as a pin or hooked to a lady's chatelaine. This pen does not leave my desk, though.

Beautiful handwritten review Tiffany and excellent penmanship! :)

Thank you for sharing. Even though I have not bought a pen, YET, from Mauricio, he has been fantastic in answering my questions through email. :)

WTB: Sailor Sapporo purple lame (F or smaller nib)

WTB: Omas 360 Rollerballs

Please PM me if you have one you'd like to sell. Thank you! :)

100% agree with your review! I just purchased a Parker 51 from Mauricio and it was a wonderful experience. I will definitely purchase from him again.

  • 3 years later...

I shall add my tuppence to this thread as well.

I have just received a 1932 Marine Green Sheaffer Balance from Sr. Aguilar and I could not be more pleased.

This pen looks much better in person than even Mauricio's excellent photography could show.

Honestly, this pen is gorgeous and has moved into my professional rotation for client meetings. Buy with confidence at vintagepen.net.

Obrigado Mi Amigo!

Jack

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
