Hi everyone,

 

Have a newbie question. I've tried finding the answer on Google, but the answers are conflicting.

 

Has a cartridge version of the 146 been made, ever?

 

It's a point of contention between my friend and I, who claims that modern pens these days will have a cartridge version, regardless of whether they have been designed as piston fillers from the beginnng.

 

Even the Montblanc people in my country can't give me a satisfactory answer.

Yes. the cartridge version of the 146 is named the 147. aka The Le Grand Traveller.

 

 

Hari, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 147 a model on it's own? I thought the last digit of the model number indicated nib size, hence the 147 has a slightly bigger nib than the 146. I have both pens at home (I'm at work now), so I'll have to confirm when I get home but from memory, the 147's nib seemed bigger.

Hi Spidy, that convention seems to break down between the 146 and 147. I have both the pens and the nibs are identical and can be interchanged.

Interesting. The pens seemed to be a slightly different size, but the nibs in your photo seem to be the same size.

I actually just purchased a 147 and I love it! The balance/nib/weight is perfect! Have fun! :thumbup:

I actually just purchased a 147 and I love it! The balance/nib/weight is perfect! Have fun! :thumbup:

 

I love mine but I hate the cost of ink cartridges - it was my first MB fountain pen (I had classique RB, BP and MP before buying it though). I've got a syringe to re-fill old cartridges but have not gotten around to testing it.

Good point. I forgot to mention that. I ALWAYS use the syringe method with all of my cartridge only pens. I've been doing it for the last few years and no problems yet! It's just easy for me to use a syringe or a piston fill. But--- to each is own I suppose. :)

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
