I finally got my first two vintage pens yesterday but they both came with some bad luck!

My Parker 51 wrote beautifully but the diaphragm was apparently broken so it leaked out a lot of ink in the blind cap so I'm sending it off to get it fixed.

My tiny red Estie on the other hand filled perfectly and holds the ink great but the nib is the scratchiest thing I've ever written with!

It's a 1554 nib and I really like the fine line it puts down but I don't think it should be this rough and scratchy.

Would getting a 9556 when I have the money give me about the same line but a smoother experience?
