I am so torn. The pics of that bulb filler are beautiful, but I think for me it's going to come down to the level of posting friendliness of the Pearl (I don't like the description of it as wedge-able). I will likely struggle with this through the buying period but I'd say it's 60-40% that I'm out. Whoever buys will be getting a fantastic pen and by darn it if I don't buy I'll be getting a fantastic Edison of some sort!

I voted for the Cobalt Fleck but i would also be interested in the Bedrock Fleck (which seems to be winning at the moment).

Boy, that cobalt blue sure is fighting hard!

Need a pen repaired or a nib re-ground? I'd love to help you out.

How will the engraving look like? (letterfont, size, place and orientation on the pen...) there are so many unpleasant engravings out there that I'm very reluctant to commit to a pen without knowing that.

In fact, I prefer the pen to have none whatsoever, but if the majority will agree to that?

Greetings,

Michael

First up is Beige/Black Swirl Ebonite. This is a material that I've only used 4-5 times, and this was 2-3 years ago, when the manufacturer was still prototyping the material. There are only a handful of Edisons that have been made from this, and only one in the last few years. No Pearls have been made from this. This takes a great shine, as you can see. Price will be $190.

I've just been clicking through your album:

Here's also a beige/black swirl ebonite Pearl: pic1 pic2

I really looks nice, even in a matte finish - the group buy will be in a shining finish according to your picture.

Greetings,

Michael

Thanks for posting this. It looks like I did make a Pearl from this material once in the past, my apologies.

That pen was made 3-4 years ago, was when this material was more of a prototype from the manufacturer.

The finish was matte, and also this pen was clipless.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
