It is official then, in thanks for the awesome posts here I will have wallpaper/screensaver versions up by end of day Friday and the three "cards" stuck in my head should make it to paper by the end of the weekend.

To those "enablers" offering ink - the offer itself was enough to have me smiling all day. Thank you so much!!!

Noodler's Tarot Cards! What will the future hold for you? Permanently ink stained hands? Wild blue yonders? A rainbow of cornucopia of rainbows? You will meet a short dark bottle of ink?

Oh that is seriously wrong... but somehow so right! (If someone does a set of these I WANT them!) :notworthy1:

Oh so many images popping into my head. I can already see the Major Catfish Arcana and the four suits of the lower cards... I would think any fortune coming from those cards would be rather... fishy, though. (Couldn't help myself)

78 cards would make for quite the project... and I am very easily amused.

That's something worth a ponder.

Working on the screen-savers now. Hoping to have something up rather quickly.

You should probably put us on a diet, one a week or month or so. You could do illustrations of scenes from some books, too. The Wind in the Willows has a texture that would go well with pen and ink. Mole and Ratty in the boat on the river, ....

Love this art. Thanks for sharing it. I'll be waiting for the screensavers to appear.

When you have pen and ink, every problem needs a piece of paper.

Oooh, I would love to see a set of tarot cards! What would your suits be? Pens, nibs, inkwells, and paper??

I look forward to seeing whatever results next from your noodling around!

Okay, here are the 1280 x 1024 sized cards for the letter carrier, the note-taker, the line-driver and the swashbuckler.

I should be posting the wide-screen versions momentarily. Let me know your thoughts.

(the "hand-written" subtitles were typed in a font based off of Lord Byron's handwriting - my own script didn't scan as well as I had hoped, may fix that in the future)

katkat42 - that's very close to what I had in mind, actually: coins become ink splots, swords become pens (they're mightier anyway), cups become bottles of ink and wands (batons) were going to become letters just for the glorious puns they were already forming in my head.

All I have to do to be in a good mood the rest of the day is visit this topic. Thanks all!

You are SO TALENTED!

I love these!

P.S. Maybe you could get a free flickr account? Or a picasa web album which is connected to gmail? I use both.

Goodness. :vbg:

I'm glad the screensavers are working out. This thread has given me all sorts of ideas to keep me busy — and in my book, busy is good. Thanks all!

htom – I haven't thought much of illustrating books already in existence, there's something so lovely and nostalgic about the styles used in say, winnie the pooh, the wind in the willows and such, that whatever I did would never compare in my book. But… I did have a very tongue-in-cheek story/series in my head that I've been trying to get out. It would be a cross between a comic book and a Victorian journal crossed with the style I used for my swashbuckling catfish. Synopsis: The year would be 1904 and the Widow Esterbrook along with other members of the local calligraphy society (Lord Palmer and Mr. Spencer) discover a way to turn their penmanship into super powers (duh duh DUH). There are steampunk elements and airship pirates (their ship, the Pelican, is one of my favorite sketches) and an evil mastermind bordering on Moriarty with a back slanted d. It's been in my head for about a year, but is still fighting to get out.

While that percolates a bit more, I have some more catfish swimming around.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
