My Current Snorkel Collection

Recommended Posts

My Snorkel collection is my oldest and biggest collection.

What could be better then collecting pens that were so popular in the past and have the smartest and most complex filling mechanism.

All this good stuff for relative affordable price and endless amount of variations.

Currently I own 40 pens but I keep looking and buying them when I get the chance.

You could say its a work in progress

Goodness, that's a gaggle of Snorkels!

But man are they beautiful looking, and those lined caps are hard to beat. Nice job on the collection.

I've just started, I have a snorkel desk pen and I think a burgundy autograph or signature that was my father's (it's the same as the burgundy pen in your picture - 7th from the left). Love these pens.

WOW GoodGuy, that's insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love snorkel's. I've probably owned over 50 of them, but am down to two now.

What a great collection you've accumulated.

Someday I'd like to acquire the illusive periwinkle without paying 300. :)

Goodguy, great collection. I also collect snorkels. I love them and think they are great pens. There is an amazing variety of nibs and colors available. I have been lucky enough to find a few flexes, italics, and music nibs among my collection. I hope to be closing in on a reverse trim black one soon, a very elusive variant to find. I noticed yours next to the autograph!!

Sensitive Pen Restoration doesn't cost extra.

Find me on Facebook at MONOMOY VINTAGE PEN

Hi,

Very impressive!

And educational, for me at least - I hadn't realised that some Snorkies, other than the PFM I, are not 'white dot'

OR

Is the white dot just not visible (above the clip)? located at the 'south end' of the barrel perhaps?

Bye,

Yes the Periwinkle is a tough one to find, I own only one and hope to get 2 more in the future.

Yes the black with silver trim was a lucky pen to find, took me a long while to get my greesy hands on it.

Glad you are enjoying your collection too.

Some of the models the cheaper ones came without a white dot like the Special, Admiral, Sarsatoga and Sovereign.

Maybe, just maybe, it would be nice to see the Sheaffer's in a Sheaffer's' display, not in a Waterman's

Well I used what I have but you do make a good point.

If you want you can send me your Sheaffer trays and I will be happy to use them for the next Snorkel shoot.

Actually I don't know if there are any trays from Sheaffer (and big ones, too) - hence the smiling face.

I just noticed the brand name and thought it's a nice touch of irony from your side

Greetings,

Michael

Dont care much about the Waterman sticker on it but they are well made and been serving me well :)

Snorkels are my biggest pen passion too. I currently have PFM number 23 and 24 on their way to me now. One more and I will have all 25 base models.

Just WOW! I just got my first snorkel this week. A black Statesman. To think about the tech that went into the filling system way back then is truly amazing! Awesome collection! I really want one of those silver trim blacks!

Amir,

Is there any reason why your collection focuses on the thin models only?

Yes few reasons

I actually love its simplicity, pen was made at a time that it was supposed to be Sheaffer's best seller and fight the new trend of the BP.

Was made in endless colours and models.

Pen is easy to find and in most cases is very affordable.

Pen has the most complex filling system ever made but is very reliable.

I did not want to know how many models there are out there......

 I do not want to buy more Snorkies....I do not want to buy more Snorkies I do not need an other Snorkel I have to keep control  Please don't let me be temped by this very impressive collection.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
