What Wahl-Eversharp models should everyone own?

I recently purchased an Eversharp Skyline from a FPNer and absolutely love it. It's a brown pen, nothing fancy, but produces a smooth and very wet line. So now that I have caught the Eversharp bug, I'd like to know from the more experienced owners which Wahl-Eversharp pens that I should add to my collection. I would really like something in a stub nib and a flexible nib to start with, but have no idea which models would be best suited. I would also appreciate information on where I could purchase these pens. Ebay scares me because I really don't want to buy a pen that needs restored.

Lucky for you that the Wahl-Eversharp pens that were originally available in stub and a flex nibs were produced in almost every era from 1918 to 1940+. That means you can focus on whatever design, period, model or shape and color you might like from almost the entire history of the Wahl Eversharp line and properly mate up a correct Wahl stub or flex nib from the same era as the pen.

So, what style of pen do you like? The Skyline you bought is positioned toward the "streamlined" style, prior to that the Dorics, Pacemakers, coronets, and some Oxfords were considered "Deco". and before that the "Flat Top" Gold seal pens were very 20's, if you lean toward that sort of thing, Mr. Gatsby.

You might browse through some of the on-line sites that show a good number of these styles. The big pen books devote about 8 0r 10 pages to this brand and are also a good place to view the many Wahl Eversharp pen models. I am sure other folks on this forum will chime in with their opinions and maybe some photos and references for you to check out.

There are few reliable non-eBay sellers who carry some nice items from time to time. People like Al Mayman (Penultimate), and Myrna and Gary Lehrer (Gopens) Over on Zoss, Bill Melvin posts some Wahl items from time to time and David Isaacson who posts here also has a few from time to time. Once you start to name names you run the risk of leaving others out and I don't want to do that but inevitably I just did. I hear there is a fellow at Pensbury Manor (Ahem) who specialize in the brand almost exclusively. I hear he has more than 800 pens many of which are sitting around and some of which he enjoys matching up with people interested in the Wahl-Eversharp brand. I also hear he is a low pressure guy who modestly does not hawk his wares agressively except at pen shows but is always willing to "respond" to requests from Wahl-Eversharp friends. Feel free to contact the Wahlnut anytime back channel if you want to speak at more length about this.

Many Wahl models can be found with stub nibs and with other interesting nibs. Trick first is to identify a model that appeals.

Here are a few shot by this ol' vacumaniac over da years. Darned ugly pens, if ya ask me ;-)

Now that's some serious eye candy! But as a Wahl-Eversharp newbie, I am at a loss to identify them all. Is there a site that has most of the Wahl models pictured as well as labeled? I'd sure like "to put names to the faces." ;)

Echo that, Margana! I would be so very appreciative if David would be so kind as to identify each of his pens....

but I now understand "The Italian Pen Maker's Mission Statement: Many years ago, Wahl made the most beautiful pen ever, the Eversharp Doric. If their lawyers knew where we are and what we're doing, they'd sue us into a smoking crater."

~~more or less, anyways~~

Here's a picture of my first (and only, so far) Doric. It arrived today. I bought it on eBay, where I purchased most of my pens, as well as two cars and a motorcycle... The pictures don't do it justice, I'll be trying to improve my pen photography. Here's a pic:

I think your fear of Ebay may be misplaced. Just stick with pens that have been restored already, or where you can establish that they are working properly. I've had VERY few pens that I expected to arrive in working condition arrive otherwise.

Or just assume you'll have to invest ~$30 for a re-sac and cleaning, and discount your bidding accordingly.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
