My Collection Of Italian Pens

daynix

Recommended Posts

Here is my collection of Italian pens. Some common, some not, but nothing very old. All pretty modern. I particularly love the DaVinci for its broad stub nib, the Divina for its ultra-smooth broad nib, and the Opera Club for its smooth fine nib. The Van Gogh has an ultra-smooth medium nib but somehow that one just seems kind of boring to me. The Passaporto has a 1.1mm stub and seems very nice, I think I'm going to really like that one.

The Etruria, the Modello T and the Castoni all have the T-Flex nib and I'm not at all sure how well I like the titanium nibs. They seem to dry out quickly and I may need to do some else with these three. That's too bad because I really like the looks of all three.

The others are all perfectly competent writers, just not anything special to say about any of them. Except: the Parafernalia is a bit loose in that funny cage so that writing with it is a bit like driving a car with too much free play in the steering - you never quite know where it's going and you don't feel quite in control.

This is a very, very small collection, I know. And it's nothing to all this beautiful pens that have been shown already. ...but still, nice pens and I like them because of their famous creators.

If it seems like I'm a big Radius fan - I am. Their extra pens are direct ripoffs of Dorics and Equipoise, but their quality is excellent, their nibs fantastic, and the celluloids just never ending range of colors. I'm a big fan of faceted pens, and SAFIS did some excellent ones. The prices of Radius are also very reasonable when compared with Aurora and Omas (given the quality of the Radius pens).

Nice collection. But No.12 does not look like a Montegrappa Extra. Is this an old model or has there been a mix-up??

Lizzie,

Most definitely a vintage Extra

Its tough to read the imprint from this shot, but it says "Montegrappa Extra"

I like the pen you call Molnteni. Never heard of this brand.

BTW Monteverde is not Italian but pure American. Only the name sounds Italian.

6 Laban- If you consider this and Italian pen

Nice collection! I believe Laban are Tiawanese?

I have since learned that it Tiawanese but the adds say that they are made from Italian resin and they show a picture of the Pope using the pen. The tip off is that are very careful not to mention where they are produced. It is a terrible writer.

361 (faceted) was made in black, gray and brown arco.

The later rounded version, all in solid colors, in black and burgundy (this one usually has the gold filled cap)

Enjoy..... keep them nice for me... :puddle: :puddle: :puddle: :P

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
