Carene Blue And Purple

OTDoc

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know where I can find a list with pictures of the various colors of Waterman Carene pens? I have a purplish blue and a blue grey Carene and am trying to figure out what they are. I see vivid blue, royale blue, ultramarine blue and royale purple all listed on the interment but have a difficult time identifying where my own pens fall into these categories. Thanks all!

Much of the problem is under what lighting conditions the pen was photographed.

Left to right, Black Sea, Royal Blue, Coral Reef, 3 x Sea Garden, 2 x Marine Amber, Charcoal, Lagoon, 2 x Royal Violet (Satin Finish)

Charcoal in certain light looks Purple. Some describe it as Purple Blue.

Now Ultra Marine when photographed with flash looks like Violet...I know this because I bought a set of Ultra's but received a set of Gloss Royal Violets. I did not complain, a better deal I thought.

This pic shows the pair of Gloss Royal Violets, they are normally a Satin finish.

I will try to upload a few more pics from the catalogues tomorrow.

This helps. I look forward to the other pics. I appear to have a royal blue deluxe, a charcoal (which is a matte gray-blue?) and I am guessing an ultra-marine blue? Not sure still. It is a matte finish and is purplish blue but does not look as violet as your pics. I will try to take a pic and upload it. :eureka:

This helps. I think I have the ultramarine. Anyone have a shot comparing the ultramarine to the royal blue? The pic of the abyss blue is new to me! So many nice shades of blue... :puddle:

In all my travels (internet sites and sales) I have never seen an Abyss Blue. This brings me to the conclusion somewhere along the way it picked up the title Royal Blue of which I have seen many.

My Green & Gold Deluxe L nib arrived today, from the USA, and it will be photographed on Friday and placed under a new topic...the L nib is just unbelievable.

Force, From looking at your Carene collection and the favorite choice of ink, it is hard to tell whether you are a man or woman lol.

This seems a bit rude and unnecessary to me.

It's my view of things. Could be that my focus is myopic. :bunny01:

Back vaguely on topic, I have to say I prefer the matte finish on the Carenes to the earlier gloss finishes. They seem to stand up to heavy usage

So I believe the precise colours are,

Royal Violet

Ultramarine

Abyss Blue

Blue Deluxe

and that there is no such Royal Blue.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
