Hi,

Just accidentally got Montblanc fountain pen and waned to ask you guys, where could I find some info about it or maybe one of you will have something to tell about it. Would like to know everything whats possible, like which is it authentic? What collection? What model? Which year? And all everything about it's background? Ok enough of talking here is all things what is written on the pen:

On the bottom of the cap: MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK Pix

On the top of the cap: XM2084146 GERMANY

On the pin: 4810 14K MONTBLANC 585

Found same or maybe not pen on ebay, my eyes says it looks the same, but I am newbie so can't tell much of the difference...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-Montblanc-Meisterstuck-4810-14K-585-Fountain-Pen-EXCELLENT-Used-ONCE-/280770504284?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D4%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D4124212305742704718#ht_500wt_922

Is this price reasonable for such a pen?

Sorry for so much questions, just got very interested and real want to know more :)

Anyway thank you all who will read this post and even more thanks to those who will respond to it!

Thanks again, here is some photos, sorry for not the best pictures, haven't got good source of light and tripod...

The pen you have seems to be the 144. (I can't open the pictures so I don't know if its authentic or not)

The eBay listing is absurd. The pen you have is worth somewhere in the vicinity of $175.

Plenty of them available at a fraction of the asking price for that one. Be advised and guided by those on here and check the classifieds as well. You are far 'safer' buying on here than other sites.

I can attest to this. I have been very pleased with my transactions in the classifieds section.

Picked up a 2001 144 with box, papers, ink and it even had its nib size sticker on it, all for only £75 - a buy-it-now mistake by an inexperienced seller, I believe. $175 sounds about right though. I have seen them go for more. I can't believe what that guy's asking on ebay - I am surprised his feedback is so positive. keep it, write with it, get the 146 and then get the 149 and ...

You don't know what you need until you realise you haven't got it.

Best first step would be to post some good closeup pictures of the actual pen, nib, engraving, section and feed.

Odds are that folk here can give you a pretty good evaluation.

Cut some slack to the guy ... after all is "FREE" shipping  he is probably going to WALK to your front door and hand it over to you :roflmho:

Pure gold = 24K. Your nib is 14K, or 58.5% pure. That is the meaning of the "585" on the nib.

If you examine the cap band carefully, you should see " Meisterstück " , not " Meisterstuck ".

I think " 4810 " designates the nib style. Does your pen fill with a cartridge / converter, or with a integral piston ?

As for the Ebay listing, " Asking " price is not the same as " Getting " price. I wonder how many times this "dreamer" reduced the price, before it was sold.

4810 == height of Mont Blanc in meters.

If the nib says "585" take the magnet and check if it sticks. Not kidding you!If it's fake nib will stick to strong magnet.(take the nib out first as the sticking is delicate)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
