Montblanc Meisterstuck Ballpoint Pen

I have a Meisterstuck ballpoint pen that was my late husbands. The original spring was missing so I put in one from another pen but the point still won't retract. Do Montblanc ballpoints use a special spring?

Also, the inner part which holds the eraser seems to be different from the other Meisterstuck I have.

I've enclosed some photos which I hope will be helpful.

Thanks.post-78249-0-02730600-1320660665.jpg

From the rubber I can see at the end of the part on the first picture, it seems your pen is a pencil and not a ballpoint.

I just tried to put a ballpoint refill into my pencil, and it definitely doesn't work.

Are you sure you didn't swap the inside parts of your Meisterstücke ? http://i.imgur.com/DBY2G.jpg

As Dura Flex said, your mechanism is from a mechanical pencil, not from a ball point pen.. They're swapped. I'm sure of it (because I've tried to swap mines and doesn't work). You should check if there isn't any other MB around that is a pencil and has a ballpoint pen mechanism. Also it would be an oddity to have an eraser in a ball point pen.

Thanks so much. As you can guess, I'm an absolute novice at this. I did think it was rather odd to have an eraser in a ballpoint pen.............. Do you know if it's possible to purchase the proper mechanism for this pen?

Well you can try ebay (google told me one was for sale there until the 10th of september), or the Montblanc repair service. The second one might be more expensive, and, as you have a pencil, you might end up with a pencil instead of a ballpoint.

You can also try to contact penboard.de or maxpens.de, they could help you. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the information. So, it looks like I have the outside parts of a ballpoint Meisterstuck and the inside mechanism of a pencil. Do you have any suggestions as to what to do with these? Is it possible to sell Montblanc parts??

The cap, could be from one rollerball or maybe one fountain pen. I do not think it could be from ballpoint, because the ring clip and the bird spot it is on place and one piece. It is only my opinion. Maybe there was a 3 piece set in your place, I can see one ballpoint section, one mechanical pencil mechanism, and one Fountain pen or rollerball cap.

Regards.

Please excuse my poor english, but it is not my mothern language and maybe it is wrong my grammar. Any Suggestions are welcome.

It seems to me that what you are missing is a pencil 'mechanism' (0.5mm or 0.7mm 'lead holder') to complete a 'Classique 165' pencil. This part is similarly sized to the ballpoint cartridge but will have a short black plastic rod sticking out the back that can be pulled out to load the leads and a gold-coloured point. Like the one here(note though that this is a platinum one). You do not need a spring.

There is no outward visible difference between a Classique rollerball (163) cap, a Classique fountain pen (144) cap and a Classique pencil cap - but they are not interchangeable. You will find that the pencil cap slides nicely over the eraser - the others would not. The ballpoint (164) cap has threads that screw into the barrel (unless it has been taken to pieces to remove the twist mechanism as in the photo above).

I have the full set of four of these writing instruments, so am fairly familiar with them.

It is my guess that your late husband acquired a ballpoint refill to try to convert a pencil to a ballpoint, possibly because the pencil mechanism is broken.

Good luck with your search.

You don't know what you need until you realise you haven't got it.

  • 2 weeks later...

A small, miniscule ring on my pencil mechanism gave up the ghost. I took it down to the MB Boutique. The unit was so old they replaced it for, I believe $50. I have watched some of the prices on ebay, and actually found it cheaper to have it repaired by MB. They wanted a lot more for the pencil mechanism than $50, and there was not garantee it was going to work. Unless it is is vintage, I go MB

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
