I, also, am looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. Just to let everyone know, we will be filming a segment on the Boston Pen People meeting for www.thewritinglife.tv, a new online series of audio and video podcasts. We are looking to show a pen club meeting and get some thoughts from folks on using and collecting fountain pens, as well as the value of pen clubs in general.

Just got home from work and unfortunately have to work tomorrow; denied pen people. I'd read something above about a periodic Boston area gathering; please keep us Boston area newcomers posted.

Likewise wanted to second the recommendation of a structured/scheduled meeting time in the future. Will be checking this post.

Just got back from this meeting. Thank you all for organizing this. It was great to meet so many people. I've learned so much, and saw a lot of beautiful collections.

I look forward to the next meeting!

I couldn't make this meeting. I will attend one in June, if we have one then.

Hey folks, if another one of these comes together please let me know and I'll post it on the site: http://pen.royalcouncil.org/

I started it ages ago, but then the meetings were too far away for me and life got busier, etc. and I forgot all about the project.

In any event, send me a notice about any future meetings and I'll post it.

I feel a lot more like I did before than I do now.

I propose the following rule, as an extrapolation from the occurrences of recent meetings: that the Boston Pen People meet on the third Sunday of every even-numbered month of the year, viz., February, April, June, August, October, and December.

If this rule is adopted, the next meeting will be on Sunday, June 17--presumably again at Kilroy's Pub at the so-called "Boston" Marriott in Quincy.

What say ye? I think that it will be much easier all around to have a regular and predictable meeting date, so that it will only be necessary to post reminders here and not have to start from zero every time and go through the solicitation of dates of availability.

Sounds good to me - we would also need the email to go out on that schedule as I think quite a few members don't visit FPN and came when they received it.

Sounds like a great plan. Let us shoot for 6/17.

Quincy is too far away for me so I won't be able to attend, but I will post it on the website and folks can let me know if things change. I'll also add it to the Pen Events calendar here on the FPN site, with a note to check this thread for more info.

The time hitherto has been 1:00, so I assume that we shall stick with that.

I probably can't make this one, but I think a regular schedule as you have proposed is a great idea. Thanks.

I may try to catch you guys at this one. Who from the old Southeast Mass. gang will be joining? Would love to get the old band back together for the afternoon.

Hope all of you guys are doing well. =)

Unfortunately I won't be there. I have a broken leg that reduces my mobility substantially and makes especially difficult on father's day to rush to a pen meeting.

Have fun!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
