I was just informed that the top bidder on this solid 14k capped Waterman Taperite was NARU'd from the 'bay. I almost cried when i lwas outbid at the last second on this pen, as it is really a beauty(no scratches or dents!). I met the offer from the seller, and i should have it later this week. I collect fountain pens that have solid 14k trim (particulary the Sheaffer Autograph/Crest Masterpiece/Masterpiece models. I'm not certain how "scarce" the Taperite are that have these solid 14k caps, but they sure are purty! isn't it great when things just kinda' fall into place!?

just had to share with my fellow pen nuts

A very nice pen. I have the same but with a matching pencil. Not my favorite writer but pleasurable nonetheless.

Moderately scarce.

Hi Doogy,

They are nice pens, mine doesn't have the 14ct trim but writes well, beware if it needs a new sac they can be a real PITA when it comes to getting them apart, don't even try it with out heat and even then be prepared for a struggle, that is the only reason why my Taperite is a sole example.

Yours seems to be a particularly nice example.

Cheers, John

PS. What exactly is NARU'd, it sounds painful, is it not a registered user or something much worse? :D

Doug,

Let us know how it performs. I've wondered about the Taperite. I have a low-end Commando with a very nice, delicate nib. I've thought that a Taperite would be a quality step up. I'm interested to hear about the filling mechanism and the feel of the nib.

Russ,

i'll certainly let you know my thoughts on how it writes. I'm looking forward to getting this one, and will certainly keep my eye out for more!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
