Greetings everyone. I've been lurking for a while but figured the last thing I needed was another online forum . . . well, as you can see, I've caved.

I'm not really a collecter, but in being a fountain pen user, I've accumulated about 20 or so pens. My dad was a fountain pen guy (Shaeffer in particular), and I always was interested in his pens growing up, but it wasn't until I read an article in GQ Magazine about Parker 51's that I really became interested in fountain pens. I went on to write all of my law school exams with a Parker 51 demi.

Again, I'm not really a collecter, but in my pen drawer are about 10 51's, a few inexpensive Auroras (my favorite Daily writers), a vintage MB, a Shaeffer Triumph green-stripe, a Cartier Diablo, a Conway Stewart, and another dozen random fountain pens that bear no relation to each other, other than they caught my fancy.

I'm also a paper fanatic, so I suppose that goes hand in hand with fountain pens. Our company controller hates me because I insist that we order Ampads for the supply closet.

Hello and welcome aboard!

It's nice to hear of FP enthusiasts with a history to it -- in your case, your dad's interest go you into it. Do you have any of his pens? If you get a chance, it'd be great to see a shot of some of your pens, or a bit more description on them.

Hope to see you around, and thanks for the great intro.

So here's what happened
While you were nappin'
I just went out for a snack
I was feelin' famished
And then I vanished...
But now I'm back

Welcome to FPN. I see by what you've told us you are already one of the afflicted so the usual warning would be wasted. Jump in anytime you feel you can add something to any post or start a new thread if need be.

Welcome to FPN, TCN! :D

I'm a huge Detroit Red Wings fan (yes, despite the fact that I live in Vancouver  ) and would love to see a game at "The Joe" one day :)

Thanks for the nice intro. You have some very nice pens, there; if you have a chance to snap a photo of your collection, we'd love to see it!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
