Omas just realized 2 very interesting editions:

the Arte Italiana Celebration, made in burkina celluloid with the same size as the old style Paragon, in a set with a very nice mechanical pencil.

Had I not put my name on the waitlist for a Burkina Paragon from Bryant, I'd be all over that set! Such a beautiful celluloid.

Using the rhodium plated furniture on that body just seems so, so wrong.

I really agree on that. The rhodium makes the black/yellow look a tad articifical, whereas gold would tone it down, and warm it up. Gotta see it in person I suppose.

I think the gold might seem a bit monolithic, and get lost to the celluloid. Though Ruthenium, which I don't think is an available option, might look good. If we can play Fantasy OMAS.

Well today I got an email about the newest OMAS Lamborghini tribute design based it appears on the 360, and honestly it is horrid, near blaspheme, totally alien to the design of the car. It seemed as though if you stick carbon fiber on a brick you can say it reflects the car.

I simply have no idea where today's OMAS designers could possibly have studied.

I got that email this morning, as well, and went to the OMAS site. I'm glad you said it first, jar, and I totally agree with you about their Lamborghini design - yuck!

I agree with you, no other makers can offer the same vintage design. I'll receive them in about 2-3 weeks. Please let me know if you wish to reserve a set.

The Burkina is definitely droolworthy :puddle: ! I think it has a handsome contrast

with the rhodium trim!

Just saw one on fleabay and I have to agree with you Jar,it's disappointing to look at. It's a

definite departure from the classical design of the Paragon.

And that piece of "carbon fiber" on the side.................

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
