Wow, deep multi colored ishime, large curved raden, and maki-e all on one pen. Impressive work, very impressive. Enjoy!

The pen is utterly gorgeous!

Huge Congrats, Strang!

I am familiar with the maki-e technique but I have never heard of ishime and do not know what raden is referring to, could anyone bring some light about those terms?

Raden is inlaid seashell, which on this particular pens would be the multicoloured blue/purple/magenta rhombus shapes. Ishime is the texture surface.

That is one gorgeous pen. I like the way the raden compliments the maki-e. And since it is an Edison, the pen probably writes like a dream too.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

The world has certainly changed since I was a kid. Yikes!

Congrats. This pen is a beauty indeed. BTW the 2 words literally means "Song" on the cap and "Frontier/Border" on the pen which i find particularly poetic. Both the words are well written IMHO.

Simply gorgeous. Show us how it writes?

Despite my poor penmanship, which does the pen a disservice, here's a writing sample:

Wow, that is a real beauty, and didn't even need to put shades on to look at it!!! B)

I hope you enjoy it for many years to come.

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Congratulations on having a hand in forging a magnificent pen! It's magical. Great work Brian and Ernest. I'm very drawn to the urushi style for its simplicity and elegance. I want to make a request as you did, but feel my request would be too vague and not technical enough for them, Brian and ernest, to have something to go on. Well, I admire your vision.

Cheers!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
