The Ultimate Twsbi Review - Part 6!

777

Recommended Posts

I received my Diamond 540 yesterday courtesy of excellent service from the eBay dealer. Mine has a fine nib, and I have to say that this is a neat pen. I would say the nib is pretty true to being a fine, and after some initial crankiness, it's writing well now.

I have Aurora Black loaded up and this ink works well in all the pens I've tried. The build of the pen is as 777 says, very solid. I also like the design and this is one of the best looking demonstrator pens I've seen, and I'm not usually a fan of this style of pen (I do have a Custom 823 also).

I will say I think that the nib could probably use a little tuning, but this one writes pretty darn well. This is also my first steel nib and it's pretty stiff, but that's a non-issue.

I'm pleased and would like to take a look at some of the newer models as they come out. This is a hell of a bargain for $50. Thanks 777 for selling me on this pen.

Wonderful! I'm so glad to hear you like it!

I'm honored to know that I "sold-you" on that pen. :D

Enjoy it for many years to come! I too am really looking forward to what TWSBI puts out next. Particularly the Vac-700. I NEED one of those... rolleyes.gif

Need a pen repaired or a nib re-ground? I'd love to help you out.

Am I the only person left in the world who DOES NOT LIKE the TWISBI?

It's a DEMONSTRATOR PEN! Look up the word DEMONSTRATOR in any dictionary. I may become interested when they make a proper opaque version.

777 is a pen restorer/nibmeister (he might say nibmeister-in-training, YMMV). You can check out his blog if you are interested in learning more about him.

Out of the ordinary? Yes. Tyler is young and knows pens well. Maybe this review shows his love of pens in general. Youthful exuberance? I think he should be commended for such a review. He nothing but a boon to the hobby, a gentleman, and he is the future of the hobby. Plus a damn fine nibmeister. I used to knock the TWSBI as well nut it is a great pen. I use vintage Montblancs, Pelikans, and TWSBIs. It's in THAT league in my mind.

Thank you for taking that kind of time and care to really go through every aspect of TWSBI ad their great pen. I love mine, one of the nicest pens ever. Even my husband (HE who owns the Mont Blanc 149 *fanfare*) says,"This writes as well as my Mont Blanc!" High praise indeed. He is such a snob and classic purist ("No colored inks for me, thank you").

Hello there - this is Tyler, AKA 777 responding:

First off - I will try to be as polite as possible, though I must say, I am a bit offended at your words.

You ask: "Who r u...?" - Let me tell you, in a few hundred words:

I am NOT payed by anyone for these reviews. I do not gain any money from them. I am not hired for them. I am not supported by the company for them. I do NOT have access to information that others don't.

I simply read up on the information already posted here on FPN and compiled it for this review. I also shared my own personal experiences with this pen.

Yes, I am 17 years old! I know, shocking isn't it - to find a teenager who is doing something useful with his time, eh? No offense to anyone else my age of course. Instead of spending my time playing video games, "socializing" on computer, and generally wasting time - I like to work, read/write, blog, review, play music, build, and run my business. I am not your average 17 year old, by any means, and I think it's a good thing!

Fountain pens are a hobby of mine, and a passion of mine. I enjoy reviewing pens, blogging, and helping/teaching others when I can. I strive to be useful in this life, and make something worthwhile out of my existence. I am a professional fountain pen repairman, and thus, fountain pens are a very big part of my life.

The moderators of this site know me well, and they know I am not out to scam or hurt anyone. I've been a member here for years, and have always done my best to follow the rules and comply with them.

So, in short - This is simply a review, that I spent HOURS of my time writing, simply so that others could enjoy it, and gain some useful info from it.

I hope in the future you will kindly ask the member, privately about this sort of thing. It's no fun for all of us, and I, nor anyone else wants to cause the moderators trouble. This kind of conflict will only gain you an account suspension at best, so I adamantly recommend you refrain from it in the future.

With all that being said, I apologize in advance if you are offended at my answer. I've tried to word it tactfully, as best I can.

Regards,

Tyler Dahl

Great review (parts 1-6), 777 or rather Tyler.

Posting a review and one's personal experiences, will always leave one open to pot shots (at times) by others. But hey, with your mature knowledge on the subject (TWSBI 530 in particular) good on yer!

Nervous? No, I'm just thinking...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
