I got mine today. I inked it with Private Reserve Daphne Blue. Compared to my Visconti Rembrandt which is a medium nib and the TWSBI is a F nib, I would say they were very close in writing thickness. I'm glad I ordered a F, almost ordered a M by accident as I was so excited to see them on ebay I clicked and realized I messed up the order, but it all worked out, thanks TWSBI for that.

It is a very nice smooth pen. I didn't have a 530 because I found out about these pens just a couple of months ago when I started collecting fountain pens, and it was too late to get any of the 530s. I'm going to order one more pen once the color ones are out or maybe the limited edition one.

I wondered, is there a need of flushing this pen when it arrives or you can fill it up right out of the box?

I filled mine straight out of the box with Noodlers Bernanke Blue...

I am a little cautious...and did put some water with a drop or two of dish washing detergent through mine before filling for the first time. I also flushed with clear water...Then filled it with Bordeaux ink.

Based on this review, and showing the photos of them filled on Amazon, my wife gave me the go-ahead. Before she could finish her sentence the order was placed. Starting with the fine point. My wife liked the picture with the deep purple ink, but I'd prefer a rich green. Open to suggestions.

My 530 has been drinking Diamine Marine. It looks so beautiful in there I can't bring myself to switch inks! When I manage to make a switch, it will probably be Diamine Twilight.

I have been using the 530 so much it got my husband's attention. He is hooked, and I think I will get him a 540 at the next gift-giving opportunity.

The cap weight on 540 is heaver, it is because 540 clip is made by solid brass form pressed, 530 was made by stamping steel. Reason for changing was because 530 clip back end was a long stamping parts then bend over to cover the back side (looks better). but due to this design, in chrome plating it is difficult to guarantee after many many years later inside the clip won't start get rusting.. (because the plating was difficult to get in to make protection...), so we changed to solid formed brass clip.

higher cost, but I can sleep better.

Indeed, I looked at this new solid clip as a big improvement also if used with a shirt or inside jacket pocket--eliminates chance of catching a thread. Bravo! The threads are also much nicer even when used on my 530.

In fact, Speedy, I wonder if you would consider selling some of these new caps as a separate item to use on 530's?

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

That's a good idea!! I'd like to be able to do that.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
