As a complement to Kathleen's excellent natural world thread, I offer another for pictures that don't quite fit into the "natural" box, but are interesting enough to us to want to share. I'll start with a couple from a recent trip to China:

Beautiful photos from China, jon!

I'd like to add something a little eerie, perhaps, but a photo I never dreamed I'd have the opportunity to take, but I did. It is the chair in which, reportedly, Casanova died, in his apartments in the Wallenstein Palace in Duchcov, Czech Republic.

I will visit this thread daily and enjoy the marvelous sights,. jon, thank you for creating this thread as a place where we may share the interesting things are eyes behold which fall outside the natural realm.

Now as we survey our world and capture images with our cameras, we may ask ourselves, natural or man's handiwork? I believe we need to reflect on the wonders of both.

Your first photo is quite interesting. I really like it. The rooftop sculpture with the bell beneath gives an appearance of being balanced there.

This is the perfect thread in which to share my scaffolding picture. This building, in downtown Chicago, was top-to-bottom covered with scaffolding. I stared at it a good while, intrigued by the geometric maze, all the lines and angles.

These are a few of my 12 yr old daughter's work ...

Halifax, Nova Scotia .... She was intrigued by the way the reflections mixed on the glass

This is on my FIL's farm... basically a study in time she said.... the old stone wash house with an old Case tractor parked out back...

She had me turn it into a sepia tone to do the time study justice...

Thanks, Spiv & Sonia. We do seem to have been placed in a less-traveled area.

I've been doing some edits & crops, so here are a couple more. Tell me what you think.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
