Monteverde - Bottled - Burgundy

Greetings all,

This is a brief review for Monteverde Burgundy; overall, it isn’t bad; however, it doesn’t send me through the streets singing and dancing. The color does; however it has given me sporadic performance in my pens. It does well in my Esterbrook J; however, it skips and stammers in my Sheaffer Targa with a broad 14k gold nib.

I will not condemn this ink though, because it is possibly the pen’s fault- although I have my qualms if it is since Teri ultrasonically cleaned and tested it and I ultrasonically cleaned it when I got it. Additionally, Monteverde Burgundy is the only ink it’s been inked with since being cleaned twice. That said; I will still reserve my final judgment on Mb until I’ve used it in a few more pens, but that will be a long time coming since I rarely use burgundy inks.

All this said; I kind of liked this ink- especially the color. The review speaks for itself, but if you have any questions or comments; please feel free to voice them.

PS: my J. Herbin P. de Lune turned a deep purple in both my pen and the sample vial I had on hand- so there are no comparisons for this ink, unfortunately.

PSII: I've been giving this some careful thought and have decided that this will probably be my last ink review. They require a lot of work and I just don't have the stamina I once had; aside from that, Sandy and Signum have everything pretty well covered. ;) - SPC. :)

I really like this colour. Darn the performance issues though.

Thanks

I have had zero performance problems with the three Monteverde USA inks that I have and continue to use! Am I just lucky? Really great colors! Swiftly become a favorite brand! I do not have the ability to write a full review. All I can say is ----- GREAT INKS! c. s.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
