A Prize Worth Writing For ~ Penmanship Contest

pb2

Recommended Posts

This is a fun contest we did a couple years ago that is worth repeating. This time with a superb first prize, and 2nd and 3rd prizes not too shabby either. happyberet.gif

The rules are few and simple:)

1) Simply write out Verse 1 of Psalm 45 (any version) with a fountain pen in your best hand and post to this thread.

2) You may use any form of lettering. Decorate if you wish; the artistic expression is up to you. (Check out Ann Finley's rendition from Rainer Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet: Welcome to the Penmanship Forum)

3) Contest ends Midnight EST July 1, 2011.

~ Winners will be announced July 3 ~

~ Judges will be a variety of FP lovers/users.

I think the $30 price for the factory Stub was original. bunny01.gif

The cap is not original to the pen. I liked the jeweled UK version and since it has been my personal 45 for several years I put all the components I wanted on it. Best filler unit IMHO as well.

What an excellent contest! And a prize worth breaking out the pens for. So, go, contestants, go!

Best of luck to you all,

Yours,
Randal

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

Not a chance in the world, but it's a stub, so I'm willing to humiliate myself.

Do you think maybe I should just put all the contestant names in a hat and draw them out raffle style? It is tempting.

Personally I like the idea of a judged contest. That may be just me though. :hmm1:

I was looking through the 'new content' search, saw this and thought it said 'A girl worth fighting for' (the song from Mulan)

Just saw this thread. What a fantastic idea, Pendleton  I'm in, but I fear the competition is going to be strong :bunny01: :bunny01:

I'm in, but I have no chance against the likes of Mauricio and some others here. Is there a sub-amateur category?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
