As New Visconti Homo Sapiens 1.3 Stub

Sleepy

Recommended Posts

I got a brand new visconti homo sapiens 1.3 stub today hoping it wouldn't be much larger than my 1.1 safari nib. However, it's quite wet so ends up being a bit wider than I can really use. Inked once, used very briefly, want to trade for something of similar value or a smaller nib homo sapiens.

Let me know if interested.

If you have bought it from Bryant, you can send it back to him for a nib swap

To those people asking for more information etc, sorry I was vague in the initial post. I am looking for a single modern pen of approximately equal value (I paid £300 for the HS new). Here is a picture of the pen with a writing sample.

P.S. I didn't buy it from Bryant and would rather trade for a pen than art, sorry WA.

If you otherwise like the pen, it might be worth the relatively small cost of nibmeister services. I found that the 1.3 was a little bit too wide for me so I had it trimmed ever so slightly (mine was on a Wall Street LE). What turned out to be correct for me with that nib was 1.15 (try to buy that at retail!). It's something to think about, anyway.

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

This is something I am considering, thank you

As you mentioned a price in Sterling £, I guess you might be in UK, in which case, I'd recommend Oxonian's nib-work .... I've seen none better!

(Just don't call him a nibmeister ;) )

+1 for the regrind on the nib.

If you really love the pen, you shoud have it reground to what you are confortable with.

As you have a 1.30mm their is alot to work for.

I also recomend Oxonian - his work is very highly regarded (I myself do all my nibwork with him).

Good luck with your pen. (I'd keep it) !!!

Cheers,

Miguel

Thanks all for your advice, I've sent it back for a nib exchange and may well grind the narrower nib when it comes back. Pen removed from trade.

Having a HS myself, which I have sent to Oxonian to modify the ink flow - its too wet, so much so that the letters bleed terribly....

I cannot attest for his level of work (haven't had the pen back from him yet!) but what I can tell you is that he is a very helpful person (just DON'T call him nibmeister! ;) ) and readily delved into my problem. From what comments I have seen here about his work, I can not place it in something short of excellent...

So, I would personally keep the pen but have the nib fixed with a few more bucks!

Take care!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
