Sailor Jentle Grenade Ink Review

I love this ink. I saw this review while browsing the forum, and was intrigued by the ink name...and stayed for the review. I have been a monogamous black user, but this finally broke me. I just got it in the mail today, and all I can say is it looks even better in person!

Got it from Goulet Pens (no affiliation) wicked fast!

edit: It does make me really hungry for pomegranates when I use it though

I'm doing a comparison of Grenade with Oku-yama (Autumn LE), Yama-Budo, and Herbin 1670.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

i also love the iroshizuku 'yama-budo' and was wondering whether grenade had similar undertones. i'm a sucker for wine-red, wine-violets though... maybe i'll get this bottle as well to add to the collection :P

WOW drool.gif i got so excited when saw this thread ...i thought i finally found my Jentle Red-Brown replacement (my all-time favourite)...

then i read its a pomegranate/maroon colour ... my monitor colour tricked me..

i know its not a replacement ..but it would be interesting if someone could post a side by side comparison ....

i am down to my last 1/3 bottle of red-brown ...and have not used for 1 year now .. preserving it wink.gif ...cheers

BAM - this ink just went on my wish list from JetPens!

Can't believe I missed this color...

Fool me once, shame on you.

Fool me twice; damn

There goes that fox again.

I just inked up a Sheaffer Targa with an italic nib that a friend gave me recently with this. I really like it. I'm not getting much shading with this pen, but in a drier one I expect to. A definite keeper.

i've noticed lately all the usual online fountain pen shops are 'out of stock' on this ink, so I'm wondering if they still make it? Anyone know a place selling it?

Thanks,

It's back! I just got a bottle from Anderson's. Filled my red Waterman Edson with it & it is much prettier than I was expecting.

Anderson web site still lists them all as out of stock.

They were in stock at one time because I ordered & got 6 bottles, 1 each of 6 different colors.

They probably sold a lot of what they had at the Chicago Pen Show this past weekend. Only Ultramarine of the new re-issues seems to be in stock.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
