Shawn,

I presume that the Pelikan feed is an improvement on the original Deccan feed. How's the ink burping when the pen is running low on ink?

Nervous? No, I'm just thinking...

Sorry for bringing up an old thread. This is almost a perfect pen for me save 3 things.

1) Don't like the shape. Would prefer a Sailor KOP ebonite or Sheaffer Balance OS shape.

2) filling system. Not a fan of ED for everyday use. A large converter or other filling system would be ideal.3

3) Not a deal breaker but would like to have the visconti style cap closure.

One can dream ...

It's easy to make these for eye dropper use. THere is no cartridge nipple on the back of the nib unit. They can still be used for button or bulb filler designs.

:)

I'm happy to say I still have this one - but not the nib. I bought a 3B a while ago after selling the M nib in a pen I had made for myself (that somebody else wanted more than me). It doesn't get much use though - it is a LONG pen.

Sorry for giving this a bump.

But, this is the most beautiful pen I've seen (next to my dreampen, Franklin Christoph model 02). I've been looking at the Deccan Masterpiece for a month, but I thought the rate was just too much for my first fountain pen. After seeing this post, I've come to realize something, I want this pen. Thanks for such a great post. Hari, do you think that they'll make another one of this if I contact them? I live in Hyderabad, so it's easier for me to visit them. Well you pear PM me with the cost of thos modified version?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
