Welcome DS

The one for you would be the Midland Show, at the Guildhall in Lichfield on Sunday 19th June, 10-5, £5 entrance! Small-ish and friendly, a very good 'starter show'!

Hope to see you there :)

try website www.ukpenshows.co.uk ...it doesn't, I think, include the Northern Show, at Lytham, on IIRC, 17th of this month.

Hi Roger

Thanks so much for the info! That all sounds great. Lichfield is a short drive (train journey even) away and isn't Lytham close to Blackpool i.e. the beach?? Could be good for a family trip if the sun stays out!

Thanks again and hope to see you in June!

Best

Hi DS

The Midland Show, at the Guildhall in Lichfield on Sunday 19th June is an excellent show as Roger says. It is friendly and relaxed with plenty of pens to look at and buy. The Northern Show is somewhat larger, and of course you also have the London Writing Equipment Show in October - which is massive.

Hope you can make it to at least one of the above shows

I intend to attend the Lichfield one this year. I know it is small but it is local(ish) so will be a good introduction.

In regards to the London one, would I be able to buy MB pens there (particularly the WE series)?

If you can't buy it at LWES, it doesn't exist. OK, that's a slight exaggeration but I have seen plenty of the type of pen you mentioned.

Even though I 'live' in the Midlands, I actually spend most of my week in London. In his case the London writing show seems a very likely possibility! What is the venue and do you have a web link?

Thanks for the heads up on that one.

Hi DS

Im a new collector as well, so thanks for the post,

Good luck in your collecting.

Do you own an edison or is it going to be added to your collective?

Beautiful pen either way.

IMHO the best guy to speak to about MB is Paco Cruz from Spain. He is normally at LWES, you can find his website here www.cruzaltpens.com.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
