Wtt: 60's Montblanc 149 With 18C F Nib

I have a Montblanc 149 with an 18C F nib from the mid-60's. My 149 has a solid ebonite grooved face ink feed (second generation 149 feed), a friction fit piston mechanism (which has a larger ink capacity), and an 18C F nib with some flexibility to it that gives some line variation with gentle pressure.

It's a very clean pen overall and in excellent shape. The 149 has been fully serviced (by FPN member Niksch), cleaned thoroughly inside and out, piston lubed, the nib and feed were reset and flow adjusted. Eric mentioned that there are a couple minor pieces of the thread missing on the barrel where the cap threads on, but it does not affect anything at all, for the sake of full disclosure.

I would be happy to provide some pictures and writing samples. This 149 writes a Fine line with no pressure (on the average wetness side) up to a Broad-ish line that is quite wet with pressure. I really like the pen, but the nib is too narrow for me. I am a B and broader nib kinda girl. :)

I am looking for a 149, preferably with very similar features and condition to mine, with a BB or OBB nib. I might consider a B nib, but I will give preference towards a BB or OBB. If I can't find what I want in a trade, I will consider selling the pen so that I can then purchase what I want.

Please PM me with any questions or information on a possible trade, or email me at ____________@triad.rr.com (fill in FPN username in the blank). I would prefer to keep it CONUS for now because I don't want to have to pay customs fees, etc.

Thanks,

Aubrey :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
