holy grail - ruby Edson

Hah ha ha... :roflmho: I thought I was going to make it through the Ohio Pen Show with my one purchase of a bottle of Rohrer Klingner Alt-Bordeaux. And then I found the pen to match -- an Edson in ruby!!! With a left oblique nib, no less! Go figure, after searching the internet and ebay for nearly a year.

I tried really REALLY hard not to buy it! It sat in that pen tray all day long. I called forth all my will power reserves. I kept waiting for someone else to come along and buy it. But, apparently, that pen wanted to come home with me... & now I'm in heaven! :)9

By the way, I dragged a newbie to the show. He won one of the drawings and is now well on his way to his new FP addiction. He had to buy a pen to go with the polishing wax he won.

So what should I name this new ruby Edson? Eddie seems just a little bit obvious.

Hi petra

Why are you so selfish and not posting a picture of your precious ? :D

Can I ask how much you paid for it ?

I'll extend a conditional "CONGRATS" -- the condition being the already mentioned picture! C'mon, let's see that baby!!!! (Nice find--enjoy)

Congratulations! Tracey, from my office, just told me that she is lusting after the ruby Edson as well. I told her to ask at the Long Island Pen Show, since the odds seem good to me that someone will have one there. Now I can tell her that they are still findable.

Yay!

Gosh, I better get it together and learn how to use my little digital camera -- and then I have to find that post with update on posting photos!

I paid (gulp  ) $375 for "Ruby." No box or papers. With ebay auctions for ruby Edsons usually going for over $400, and the "buyer beware" aspect of ebay, the price seemed okay (I'm not sure I could ever really bring myself to spend that kind of money on ebay)... I filled Ruby with ink right then and there, was able to check out the pen, and the seller was very nice.

The pen seems to have had very little use, but there was a small scratch in the gold satin finish on the back side of the cap. Otherwise the pen is in excellent condition and I really adore the nib, a left oblique fine. I will post some writing samples as soon as I have time.

As it turns out, I really like the Waterman stiff nibs. I didn't expect to. MyWatermans (Carene, Exception and Ruby) are among my very favorite writers. I just hope they don't come out with an Edson in brilliant red, or I'll really be in trouble :D

You did fine on the price. I paid $400 on Ebay for my blue one.

Watch the finish - the matte gold of the cap can show bright spots if you let the pen ride against another one in your pocket, which ;polishes' it a little - caught that one quickly!

I'd love a ruby Edson but I'm afraid even my fevered collector's brain can't justify buying two of such a relatively expensive pen.

Now wave a Boucheron under my nose at anything less than bankruptcy (mine) prices and I would certainly twitch....

374$ thats a good price petra.

I paid for my blue Edson 390 +S&H

So now all you have to do is learn how to use the digital camera and snap few pictures for us of your ruby Edson.

Great pen the Edson.

I use a LE silver version which came with a medium nib.

Bought an oblique nib from the USA via e-bay.com from a regular seller of various Edson nibs and must say it is very close to what I have been searching for in every aspect of fountain pen design & function.

Had bee using a Yard O Led Viceroy grand Victorian but thats another saga....

Enjoy the Edson mate it really is a pen worthy of high esteem.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
