My Personal Pocket Notebook

Recommended Posts

Is there any interior pocket (e.g. Moleskine's envelope) in the book? Is there any secure closure (elastic running top to bottom or across the width)?

As a notebook addict, i am thrilled to see another come on the market. Is the cover flush with the paper, like moleskin, or is it a little over lapping, like picadilly? Also, what kind of price-range are you thinking?

Hi Fierdog,

The cover will be flush.

Please email me your mailing address and I will mail you a book.

Your idea sounds interesting but I am curious about the number of pages in the notebook. You indicate a heavier paper that is thicker and that normally means fewer sheets for any given thickness of notebook. Do you believe your version will offer more value for the price than any of the others on the market? And speaking of price, do you have a projected price for the notebook?

What method of distribution do you plan? Your web site only? Selected web vendors? B&M?

Not that I a am a notebook junkie or anything, but I suspect one will join my growing hoard.

Hi Tberry,

You are correct that heavy paper in a saddle stitched notebook means less pages (I do not want to give the page count away yet). I will not be able to compete on price alone with mass produced products (made in China for example) and will only be successful if people find my design and purpose of higher value than the price I will offer them at which i am still working on. I am also still finalising the packaging and distribution method.

Please email me your mailing address and I will mail a book out to you.

Hi Lloyd,

There is no secure enclosure. It is a simple yet (I think ) unique and fun notebook that I can use daily, and I hope fellow fountain pen users will find useful also.

Email me your mailing address and I will mail a book to you.

I'll give it a try: Will there be a pocket in the back like the moleskine journals? And do they come in graph paper?

Need a pen repaired or a nib re-ground? I'd love to help you out.

I am looking forward to seeing a picture of the finished product! Until then I am trying to imagine what it looks like in my head :)

Are the pages numbered or do they possibly have tearable corners for easy thumbing-through?

Hi Folks,

Here are some photos I took to show the text paper with the inks I have. I took the photos with my iphone and hope they are okay. one piece of paper shows my (nervous) writing and some heavy coloring. the other was to show a watercolor wash that was requested by a member. To show the backside I simply folded the paper over.

According to my original post I now have the 30 posts I was after. I want to thank everyone who participated and would like to also thank this forum which enlightened me on the Joys of fountain pens.

I hope to mail out books to all participants by the end of next week and look forward to there feedback if they so wish to do so.

In the meantime I will keep working on the loose ends to offer this book for sale.

Thanks again,

CTF

How well will it take my 1.5 calligraphy pens with a gusher ink?

I know I am past the 23, but I'll beg for one anyway

I'm always late to the party. Busy day today. I'd like to be one of the first to pay cold hard cash for the chance of trying out something new. Could you PM me when you put up the add on FPN or PM me your cost including shipping and Paypal and I'll send you the cash? Anxious to find a perfect pocket notebook. Paper weight, ink/FP tolerance and size with Elastic closure sounds perfect. Jim

Hi 777,

The pocket book is designed after my personal preferences, which is blank paper. These pocket books will not have the pocket like the Moleskine. Your question came before I had uploaded my last post with the photos. Therefore, I would like to mail you a book if you would like one. Please email me your mailing address.

Man, after reading all the "teaser" posts and seeing the photos, I'm stoked to try one out! Sounds like it's gonna be a killer.

Hi Shane27,

Thanks for your enthusiasm! The pages are not numbered and they are tearable but not perforated. You are one of the final posted questions that assisted me in reaching my 30 post goal. Therefore, if you would like a book mailed to you please PM me your mailing address.

Let us know when these things become available for purchase. Always looking at different pocket notebooks to put in my cargo pockets. I can even field test it on my current deployment. Sounds like this thing may be the ticket over those cheap ones they issue us.

Good morning from snowing Edmonton,

Since my last post yesterday there are another 3 interested members in trying my new book. I have decided break my own rules and extend my free book to these members as I think it's the right thing to do!

RedSox04, Jimhughes, and hicksdm please PM me your mailing address and I will send you a book.

I am going to sign out now for a few days and work on the final details. Next week before mailing I may send some teaser photos to keep this mystery alive!

Thanks again to all!

Do you have any plans to do grid or dot patterns in the future?

I carry a pocket notebook daily and burn through them pretty quickly. Pricing info would be great as well!

Looking forward to seeing your product!

interesting ...i have an idea for a blank daily diary ....based on a clock face....was using it for years but hand drawn & copied onto A4 paper ..

then in 2007 a local here won a Muji Design Award (2nd place) for same idea ...now its in production, but sadly not in my local muji shop ...

my design had a clock face of 85mm diameter with 15m segments so i could write on the circumference next to the time ...if i can learn how to upload my scan here i may do it future ..on lunch break now

maybe you can consider a "print" design of something similar besides the standard blank/rules/squares that i imagine you would have ....

cheers

+1. This was innovative but I held back due to the minimalist cover.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
