149 engraved and BB

Sent my 149 on Feb/22/2011 and received it today from costumer service (Fort Worth, TX). The 149 was engraved and the nib was changed from M to BB. Engraving was $25 and nib exchanged was $40. Moreover the 149 was tuned up (the piston had too much friction). I am so happy. It feels like a Montblanc should feel. It is a great pen and I am extremely happy!. I just wanted to share my joy and my experience.

The 149 was a gift from my wife and my father-in-law to celebrate my graduation.

Magnificent pen/nib, and I love the engraving. (Goodguy is allergic to engraving, but many of us think it's just fine). Congrats and enjoy.

Fantastic! I applaud those that engrave their pens :clap1:, especially for such special occasions. Use it in good health.

That's probably going to be a pen they pull from you cold, stiff fingers after a lifetime's hard use, so engraving seems highly appropriate.

It's not the destruction of a classic; it's the creation of a family heirloom. This particular pen is not a commodity but a reward commemorating an important personal and family milestone. In a case like that engraving makes it even more special.

Yes, MB 149 is fantastic. I love this nib, which looks like a kite. Since a few yrs I have had Pelikan 1000, nice pen, but having not too beautiful nib. The nib of MB is like divine goddes with the nib of Pelikan. Pelikan writes wet and beautifull, but I can't look at Pelikan's nib :(

Congratulations and I wish to serve You until You give them another hand.

Does BB nib of MB is similar to BB Pelikan? I have a disease which is called MB ;) I will try to treat it on April by purchasing this pen.

I agree. Too many people place value on an object, and do not place value on the event the object is to commemorate.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
