Stipula - New Versions

Nice. I'd like to see it in Amber and Alter Ego.

I think the black celluloid may be more immune to visual signs of ink stains and hence ink window and direct contact with the ink might suit well to this newer, black model. The Amber and Alter Ego models may still need inner sleeve (plastic or metal) to avoid stains from direct contact with saturated inks. Here I am assuming (may be wrongly) that the newer model doesn't have any inner tube (plastic or non-plastic).

The 2006 and newer model black Etrurias are resin actually, rather than celluloid. Also, the older model black ones are really quite old: the black celluloids were of the original Etruria shape. Those had a plastic sleeve for the PF mechanism, which was glued to the nid assembly (hence no nib assembly unscrewing for those early PF filler Etrurias).

The black ones that came out in 2006, essentially with the Amber Vintage and Alter Ego models, both C/C and PF, were in resin from there onwards, and the difference in weight between the celluloid and non-celluloid models is substantial, due to the metal inserts in the celluloid models (the black resin ones don't have this). My guess is that the Voyeur wil also be in resin.

Warm regards, Wim

The new black pen is resin, not celluloid, like the last and recently discontinued black resin that the Voyeur replaces.

The last celluloid Etruria were the 10th Anniversary, and the Fiesole, I think.

I thought, both actual Ambra and Alter Ego regular editions are made from celluloid. Am I wrong?

I suspect Susanna's indicating the last pens made from cellulose nitrate. I believe the current Ambra and Alter Ego are made of cellulose acetate.

"Celluloid" can refer to either, but the nitrate variety (used on vintage and some modern pens) is usually prized more.

:D

As an ardent (amateur) photographer, I like both, but actually prefer cellulose acetate because it is so much stronger and doesn't shrink as much as the nitrate variety does. Both have a distinct smell, and feel extremely nice to th etouch, much more so than any other material for pens, IMO.

I am wondering whether the Blue Ocean celluloid isn't nitrate, I am not too sure.

Besides the Fiesole, there also was the Santa Fe X LE, which was the same celluloid, just in a C/C version.

IOW, the Santa Fe X LE as a Stipula edition. The celluloid is absolutely stunning, plus it is vintage celluloid. Really incredible.

Ouch, my wallet is going to hurt again, a lot. Not only the Voyeur, but also this one. Plus, I am aware of another one likely to be produced this year....

As someone with both the Santa Fe X and the Fiesole, I don't know if I'd buy a third one. I like the celluloid, but would like it more if it were blue with brown veins. :)

The Light one, of course.

Well, it is the prototype of the Fiesole Light, but still the same. Stipula Fiesole no 1/1.

I'll post some pictures later, in the evening.

kind regards,

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
