Coming Soon: J.b.'s Perfect Pen Flush

Richard

Recommended Posts

Gate City Pen & Ink has been working behind closed doors, and there's a new product on the horizon.

What is this stuff? More information will follow shortly, but the one thing I can tell you is that it's a product every person who uses a fountain pen needs.

Dear God, I hope we can get it in Canada. All the cool stuff costs too much to ship here!

Hello.

Is this something that is meant to mix with ink for better ink flow, or a separate fluid used to simply "flush" a pen?

I take it for granted that "flush" is synonymous with "clean" - Yes?

Then, it would appear that the product should be sold in a much larger volume than what appears here - No?

If the product is to be used to "clean" a pen, then it seems more appropriate to offer the product in 1 Pint/2 Pints/Quart size volumes, since more than a "few" ounces of fluid would be required to "clean" a single pen.

- just wondering...

We thought about designing to the tag line, " May the flow be with you" ...

but Richard had already finished the "Old Time Patent Medicine " look I had asked him to design to ( which he did a fabulous job on, IMHO)!

As he likes to say, "are we having fun yet?smile.gif

Have you considered the concept that this item might be sold in a concentrated state....

Indeed, as the original post states, "[m]ore information will follow shortly", so doubtless all will be revealed in due course. I'm looking forward to learning more about this liquid! The label alone is delightful.

- Ah! "Concentrate" -

- hadn't thought of that one...

- thanks for the enlightenment.

- sounds like an interesting product, indeed.

Don't worry, psychdude! I'm in Canada too and if worst comes to worst, we can split shipping. :)

I'm definitely on board with getting some of this stuff! I have a boss who leaves his fountain pens to dry out all the time and it's up to me to clean them all. Gah.

• What is J.B.'s PERFECT PEN FLUSH?

It's a cleaning and flushing aid, to help you keep your pens clean and in tip-tip shape. It's not a cure-all. It won't magically fix a pen that has dried out and is completely dead, solid, compacted clogged. For that, we recommend Koh-I-Noor Rapido-Eze.

• Why is the bottle so small?

J.B.'s PERFECT PEN FLUSH isn't a "use it once, throw it away" product. It isn't concentrated, but it's designed to be reused until it's too "dirty" to perform its job.

This stuff is the outgrowth of the solution I've been using to clean and flush pens at the Nashua Pen Spa for more than five years. When used as part of a "conscientiously applied program of pen hygiene" [apologies to the ADA], it will definitely improve the overall function of most pens.

Is this the stuff they give your before a colonoscopy?

(Seriously, sounds like a useful product.)

The liberty of the press is indeed essential to the nature of a free state; but this consists in laying no previous restraints upon publications, and not in freedom from censure for criminal matter when published. Every freeman has an undoubted right to lay what sentiments he pleases before the public; to forbid this, is to destroy the freedom of the press; but if he publishes what is improper, mischievous or illegal, he must take the consequence of his own temerity. I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
