Pens That Fit Pilot G2 Refills

Hello everyone,

Many of you will understand that there are many jobs where FPs are just not practical much of the time, even if it isn't in a dirty environment. Before I came back to FPs, I used Pilot G2s for much of the time, and have yet to find a ballpoint that will match it in terms of smoothness. Yes, the Pilot in its native form is perfectly functional, but it isn't exactly what I would call a beautiful pen. FPs have opened my eyes to the myriad of stunning materials you can make a pen from, from 'precious resin' (but seriously, I would be interested in a MB conversion), celluloid, solid silver, urushi, to good-looking plastic. Or are there refills just as good that will open my eyes to a similar range?

Thanks for any replies in advance.

David

stick a couple spacers or take your chop saw and you could fit your G2 refill in a Montblanc, Lamy, or Uni-ball.

Visconti Homo Sapiens; Lamy 2000; Unicomp Endurapro keyboard.

I am using the G2 refill in my Carbon Fibre MonteVerde Invincia Rollerball. The pen looks great and writes like a dream now.

I tried a G2 refill in a Pelikan Souveran and it fit well. Waterman is known to be compatible. Scrikss as well.

Verba volant, littera scripta manet.

Ah, I see what was the problem last time I looked for this solution - I would much rather a retractable ballpen style, rather than have a cap to lose.

Thanks for the replies,

Rollerball, sorry I probably should have specified that.

I've found that in most cases, the waterman ballpoint refills and rollerball refills are interchangeable so the G2 refill should fit both or either !

My Waterman Phileas rollerball works perfect with the G2 refills. The refills fit right out of the package, with absolutely no modifications needed.

Try a Zebra JF. I've found it smoother and more consistent than the G2, plus the ink is more fade-resistant. If for some reason I couldn't use a fountain pen, this would be my next choice. Both the G2 and JF refills are very close to the size and shape of a standard Schmidt rollerball refill, and will fit most rollerballs that accept those. For example. . . My Elysee Caprice rollerball and my Aurora Talentum rollerball both accept them.

Also. . . There are a lot of companies making refills compatible with Parker ballpoints, and some of them are making gel rollerballs that I think are comparable to the G2. So, if you prefer something smaller and retractable, something like a Parker Jotter might do the trick.

Parker makes a gel rollerball refill that fits the Jotter. I use one at work where I have to write on carbons, it works great!

I got a couple of Private Reserve branded gel refills (I think made by Schmidt) with dark brown ink, they're nice. They'll fit my Jotter or my Monteverde Intima (which I like a lot, but its chubbiness makes it a bit less handy). I also modified one to fit in my Sheaffer Targa ballpoint; it only required trimming a bit of plastic.

I have the matching Targa FP and BP. I've put Noodler's #41 Brown in the fountain pen and the PR brown gel refill in the ballpoint, so that's a pretty nifty combination. They're not quite a perfect color match, but they're close.

I also have the PR Brown gel refill for my Jotter. After being so, so, so disappointed with Visconti's brown gel Parker-style refill (their black, on the other hand, is still great, as is their turquoise) it was wonderful to get the PR.

How does one modify them to fit a Montblanc?

I believe the Montblanc refill is a bit longer so you have to lengthen it somehow. I read where someone made a plastic spacer out of cut piece of old refill cartridge to where someone simply rolled up or wadded up some paper to make a spacer. I think Uniball (i.e. Signo and Impact) may fit without modification into Montblanc body.

Pilot G-2 refills fit perfectly in Rotring 600 rollerball bodies.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the G2 refill is basically the same size as the refill for the Reform rollerball I got in a set from Lexaf.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
