Welcome klemenv!

I sure do know what you mean. I stopped using fountain pens for a few years after I bought a pen from ebay that didn't work, and ruined my daughters pen by soaking it. I got hooked again when my aunt brought me to me first pen show (NYC). I went "just for fun" . I walked into that room and was hit hard by the fountain pen bug.

Hi Klemenv,

Welcome to the friendly and addictive atmosphere of FPN! You do realize you're lost forever now, do you? No chance of ever going back to pre-fountain pen days  .

I must say I had a slightly different experience to yours. Not having used fountain pen for well over 20 years, I decided to get myself a really expensive one, a Parker Duofold Centennial in black, about 7 years ago now. That was the pen of hell, and I only got back into fps when I received a very nice Waterman as a present, now almost 2 years ago. Next I discovered PenTrace, then Denis started FPN, and the rest is history. I am truly addicted now :D .

Kind regards, Wim

Welcome to our little community, Klemenv.

It seems a lot of us strayed from early experiences with FPs then came back only to fall completely in love with them. I never stopped liking FPs, just didn't realize what I was missing. Stumbled on a Levenger catalog one day and saw the Phileas. Started searching the internet which was sort of new to me at the time. I guess correctly that pens on-line were much less expensive than through many of the catalogs. Got my Phileas - my first "real" FP since teen years, and that's all she wrote. Pun intended.

so.. you are among kindred souls here. :)

looking forward to hearing more from you.

Maja, Belgrade is a nice city. I have been passing it twice, when I was serving army in Niš. In recent years, Belgrade has become known for good parties. Many my friends were there and I hope to visit it soon.

Kind regards to all.

Cool! I haven't been back since 1981 :( :( but my husband and I plan to go on vacation there sometime in the future. About 99% of my relatives are still there....

Welcome to FPN!

Unlike many...I have been uning foountain pens continuously for some 22 years so there was no rediscovery for me.

Either way, it's not so important when you started or stopped using them but that you are here enjoying the company of some truly wonderful people.

Cheers!

Keith,

I had a Pelikan 140 that has completed one primary school, three high schools (my father, my grand father and mine) and two universities, but finally its celluloid barrel has given up.

But than I saw on Heathrow Duty Free celluloid made Montegrappa's and I was hooked. There were other priorities in my life and Montegrappa's are pretty expensive in Europe.

Finally I bougth Omas, and I am ......toasted.

Maja,

you should go in summer so that you can combined it with seaside vacation in Budva (Monte Negro).

Absolutely!

Summertime is definitely the best time to visit :)

My father's side of the family is from Montenegro and I want to show my husband some of the beautiful old seaside towns like Budva and Sveti Stefan. My aunt has a cottage near Kotor, so I am sure it would be easy....we just need to find the free time (and $$ ) to go!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
