Me too! My thoughts are similar to:

"Just wanted to update you on my purchase. I received the nib unit and am thoroughly dissapapointed, as i can no longer seem so to use any of my other pens! I cannot put this down! thank you so much for your professional manner, these boards continue to restore my faith in my fellow man. ~S."

I have 5 (and one on the way) Pendleton points, and want more! I have a list of pens I want to have Pendleton add some panache to, and it seems every non-Pendleton point nib I own is on there. :roflmho:

What is so special about a Pendleton Point which makes it something any skilled nib-grinder couldn't do if asked? Or is it just the name which is unique?

Just asking ... not casting aspersions on the performance of PPs.

Hi Roger ~

Good Q. The simple answer is: Nothin'.

But I think you open an interesting discussion about skilled nib-grinders. I made mention this week on FPN of the great people there are to chose from. People I have been privileged to get to know and have offered much to the FP community and still do. People I recommend highly. Here is a quote from my post in this forum (The Day To Day Thrills Of Of Writing With A Rigid Nib ... ):

"GET YOUR NAILS DONE! Richard B and Michael M will be at the Philly Pen Show and I encourage you to jump on line for both/either. John M does not re-grind pens at shows but is certainly worth the wait in sending one to him. And speaking of worth, Susan Wirth , the Queen of Nibs and Mother of all Pen Shows, always has a grand selection of great nibs to jazz up your pen life. There are other nib folks as well with whom I am not personally acquianted, but those I have mentioned have lent much to my craft over the past few years."

All good nib grinders have different styles of achieving good results and each is "special" in their own way. A lot of my clients are happy to own nibs that have been modified by each of the people above as well as me. So, "What is so special about a Pendleton Point which makes it something any skilled nib-grinder couldn't do if asked?" Nothing ... unless it is the one you are using at the moment.

As to your question re. the unique name: The other nib-modifiers mentioned have been at the grindstone longer than I and have, and are established with many weeks

of back-up business in their turn~around. They don't have to do much to let folks know they have something "special" to offer as I do. So posting these notices is important to show and let people know what I have to offer: Pendleton Point Panache (Shameless huh? rolleyes.gif)

I much appreciate the good responses from some of my very valued clients. Thanks peeps!

And thank you for asking Roger. :)

Thanks, Pendleton, for your frank and friendly answer, which completely confirmed my 'assumptions'.

I had rather thought the name was to make you 'stand-out from the crowd' .... very good marketing :)

And your many satisfied customers, who are also prepared to speak-up, shows that you are clearly 'delivering the goods'.

I have used a couple of US nib-modifiers of repute, and was generally satisfied ... at a cost, in terms of time and shipping. The results were not always quite what I'd wanted .... problems of 'remote communications' and, probably, my inability to convey my exact requirement!

The advantage I now have is that I can usually get work done, here in Europe, while I am present and can say "Just a bit crisper, please!" if I need to, without the bother & expense of returning the pen.

More power to you... thanks again for explaining.

It had occurred to me to move into Pendleton's neck of the woods to achieve much the same thing....but then I'd be considered a stalker....:ph34r:

Pendleton is two for two with me. A Rotring Lissabon with F CI bought on a whim that i can't seem to stop using; and today my L2K returned from a trip south with new CI, Smooth with nice line variation.

I'm going to have to give the PP a try sometime. My last 5 have been by Mike Masuyama.

I have had Pendleton perform his magic on many of my pen nibs and they are without exception perfect writers. I own at least 5 "Pendleton Points" and those pens are always inked. Pendleton guarantees your satisfaction. Try a "Pendleton Point" and you will never go back to the "dark side".

Not much new to add here... I have had two pens sent in for Pendleton Points and both have come back amazing. Pendleton is the only nib-grinder I have used in my short time using FPs so I don't have a base for comparison outside of him.

The real difference for me though, not only are his nibs amazing to write with... Pendleton as a person is one of the nicest, honest, and good guys I have dealt with ever. Regardless of the quality of his nib-grinding, which I find top notch, you won't work with a better individual.

Many blessings brother!

Only nib grinder that I´ve been felt like affording, as the price value ratio was more than reasonable. After I received the pen, I felt like I was stiffing Pendleton.

The voice of this guitar of mine, at the awakening of the morning, wants to sing its joy;

I sing to your volcanoes, to your meadows and flowers, that are like mementos of the greatest of my loves;

If I am to die away from you, may they say I am sleeping, and bring me back home.

I was hoping the answer would be that a PP would actually help your handwriting look as good as Pendleton's. :doh:

  • 4 weeks later...

I just wanted to add my experience to this topic :)

I sent my blue Pelikan m605 (my favorite pen!) to Pendleton to see what sort of italic he could make out of the F nib...I sent it March 9th and received it back today, March 19! Can you imagine that? Figure in mail time from here to there...the waiting period was painless! And his work? He has somehow managed to make my favorite pen even better. It is smooth as silk.

I can not recommend his services enough! My only regret is that by posting this, it will likely increase the wait time for the NEXT CI I have him grind :)

Thanks Pendleton, you've earned yourself some repeat business!

Shane
