Conway Stewart In Administration

It is sad that so many, with so little knowledge, wish to commentate on facts they know little or nothing about.

I have read with dismay the views of some FPN members. Two posts from people who are close to Conway Stewart make some sense and to the extent it is relevant, have my support. Thanks Bill Riepl and Mary Burke for some degree of objectivity.

Who am I to commentate? What do I know?

I have been distributing Conway Stewart pens in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia for some years. During that time I have enjoyed a close relationship with the Conway Stewart factory and all of those who work within it. I have visited the factory two or three times each year and enjoyed the company of both management and employees in what I truly regard as a "classless workplace" where all have joined together to create a manufacturing facility which I truly admire. Incidentally, I have a few qualifications in a similar field!

I don't know "Hugh" but, negativity breeds contempt Hugh. Unless you know the facts or circumstances, I suspect that it may be extremely unwise to provide commentary and, unless you are a lawyer, your opinion as to the current state of what is (now), a past entity.

I do know the facts and circumstances and admire the decisions taken by Conway Stewart's management to implement the restructure which has taken place. Their decision will result in a stronger, more resilient and more focussed enterprise which will continue to produce quality pens for the world to admire. To implement that purpose, there is now a "new" Conway Stewart which is not subject to any form of administration. I know of no risk in ordering products directly from Conway Stewart or its authorised distributors or re-sellers.

Conway Stewart will survive, prosper and benefit from the restructure which has taken place.

Emphasis added.

So this interests me since you are a vendor claiming knowledge of what went on internally.

Especially since you used the word "new" - does this mean the previous company was dissolved or some other action during the administration? Either way, hopefully Mary can clarify there. Also, will this have any impact on warranty claims? If it is a new company, will it still honor that 100 year warranty that is on a pen or two of mine?

Thanks!

Hi All,

The changes made within Conway Stewart were mainly internally -- The warranty on your Conway Stewart pen remains unchanged so there is no need to worry! We continue to support the after-sales service for the modern Conway Stewart pens.

Kind regards,

Mary Burke

Awesome Mary - Thanks for getting back so quick! I hate to add speculation to anything, but when a vendor claimed inside knowledge and worded things like that I had to ask. Of course, I don't really foresee one of my CS's needing a trip back to their birthplace, but it's nice to know it's still there.

One of mine made the trip in the last few months and made it home without the dratted leak [lever filler].

Still wondering how I could fill it with red ink and have it leak blue :hmm1:

But that's the ONLY of my myriad CS pens to ever need a trip anywhere.

My local penshop reports very good performance by the new CS, with orders being received within 3 days (that is from the UK to the Netherlands).

Seems class-A service to me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
