Pay It Forward 2011

Recommended Posts

I have a Danitrio pen rest that I'd like to go to someone who will use it, since I don't seem to. Don't have a camera handy, but it is kidney shaped, with slots for two pens to rest, and has a polished medium-dark wood look. Felt bottom. The slots are quite wide, able to accommodate larger-barreled pens.

Out of the PM responses I receive in 24 hours, I'll randomly draw one lucky winner.

Sorry, but I can only ship within the United States.

I subscribe to The Rule of 10 (pens, that is)

Okay, more stuff, especially for those DIYers:

Have three nail polish-sized bottles of shellac to give away. Zinsser Bulls Eye brand. Literally comes in a nail polish bottle, so it has a handy, built-in brush!

My turn to pay it forward. I wanted to do this last year but never got around to it.

Well, better late than never.

-Pelikan Brilliant Red (2 Fl. oz) [One ink fill only]

-A set of Piccadilly pocket memos (2) shrink wrapped

-One Piccadilly, Medium, ruled notebook shrink wrapped

-One Clariefontaine cashier, french ruled

-One black Hero 616 fountain pen, never used

But wait! A bonus:

An additional black Hero 616 that is meant to be given away to a friend who is interested in fountain pens (a sort of pay it forward, pay it forward). Let’s infect others with our addiction/hobby!

Instructions:

1) Open to Fountain Pen Network members preferably (but not limited to) newbies: less than 5 pens to your name. US or International. I will pay for shipping.

2)PM me a message with the following subject line: PIF 2011

3) In the body of the message please write about:

-what got you into the world of fountain pens

-who you would give the bonus Hero 616 to

-one reason you would like to get the package

-one reason you think someone else should get the package

Time:

It is about 8 PM Pacific time in the US (1/12). I will leave this PM box open for the next 24 hours so it will end 8 PM Pacific time on the 13th. Good luck to the newbies~! I will announce a winner tomorrow night.

Wow! Picking the receiver took much longer than I had expected. Congratulations to User Mattheuu~! Enjoy the package that is being sent your way!

To everyone else, thank you for trying. I wish you luck in the next Pay it Forward. And who knows, maybe I'll be setting up another PIF in the future.

3 weeks ago I would have been all over that offer. I ordered my bottle and have a lifetime supply.

Can pens be asked for in this topic? Because I would happily take any of those combo pens (fountain pen/mechanical pencil in one)

OK Heres a PIF for folks in the UK.

I have a Sheaffer fountain pen(No Nonsense?) which was a free gift that came with a pen I ordered. I shall never use it and so would like to pass the gift on. Probably most suited to a youngster as it has footballs all over it, against a grass background! M nib.Comes with 2 Sheaffer cartridges.First to PM etc.

MLK DAY FOUNTAIN PEN GIVE-AWAY.

I have six used, inexpensive fountain pens, on the small body, and fine nib side to give away. These are available one each for six FPN Newbies ( less than 100 posts ), in the USA and Canada, who have not received one of my give-aways before.

First six responders who PM me, and who tell me which pen they would like and why, and give me a mailing address:

All Claimed! Thanks for playing the Karma Improvement Game!

Holy (bleep), you guys are fast! Both are claimed.

In an attempt to find the perfect journal, you have to try a lot of duds. Actually, these "duds" are perfectly good journals that other people love but just aren't up to my snippy specifications. So instead of selling them for a pittance, I am bringing them to the PIF forum. PM me, please!

1. This journal - I ripped the first page out and it has a tiny squiggle in the top right corner of the second page, but other than that it is in perfect coniditon.

2. A hard bound whitelines journal like this. Again, I tore the first page out, but it's perfect aside from that.

I'm feeling generous in the ink department, so with each of these journals I will include a 2 or 3 mL ink sample (depending on which ink I choose and how much I have of it). Just tell me what colour and shade you'd like to try (eg. *dark* green), some inks you're interested in trying, and what inks in your requested colour range you have *already* tried (to avoid me sending you something you already have). Obviously, I might not be able to accommodate your request (I think I only have about 30 bottles of ink), but I'll do my best.

The samples will come in WAY too large reusable vials that afterward can be used to carry ink while you travel, or a million other things. I use them for bobby pins and hair elastics. They are really useful and incredible sturdy industrial grade plastic vials with tight screw caps, and I hope that the people who receive them will NOT throw them out but continue to use them for different purposes.

This is an international giveaway, as I will be sneakily shipping from my work on Monday. That means no tracking, so if it gets lost in the mail, it gets lost in the mail ... there is no recourse. Sorry!

Great, now you've gone and gotten me lusting after a set of those Whitelines books. I seem to be a sucker for good design.

The design is great but I didn't love the paper. There was way too much bleed through for my tastes. I can handle shadowing, but it was across the line in the white lines journal. I've got a pad of paper that I use for letters, but the journal was a total no-go for me.

Wearever Lovers Unite! I scored a green plastic Wearever which I am confident has never seen a drop of ink. It is a cartridge filler and I have not idea where to get carts to match it! I have just decided to pass it on to a home which would appreciate it .

PM me if you are interested. I will ship CONUS and will split shipping anywhere else (outside CONUS just reimburse me back 1/2 of actual shipping upon receipt if you would be so kind.)

This pen is probably "student " grade, but is perfect and appears unused in every respect.

May you be blessed!

EDIT:

I have not decided who should get this yet. Please indicate whether or not you have access to Wearever carts. They are proprietary, I believe, so should go to someone who has them or access to them.

We have a winner! Congrats to InkStainedHands!

Okay, I'll add to the mix...

  • Lamy Vista with EF nib with converter.
  • Lamy Vista with F nib with converter.
  • 3 oz bottle of Everflo True Blue. Mostly full. It has a little ink spill so the right quarter inch of the label is truly blue.

I can offer shipping in the US. Outside the US, perhaps you can help fund shipping.

PM if interested.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
