What Is Your "grail Pen"?

I should add that my ultimate "grail pen" is one made by Conway Stewart from a piece of solid gold. I doubt that I would ever have such a pen even if I could afford it -- which I can't so the issue is moot. Even if I got the pen, I would want to carry it with me everywhere, which probably wouldn't be such a good idea given its value.

However, it is a pen worth dreaming about.

Stipula daVinci Infinity. Anyone selling?

Hello dnb,

That is a really nice pen. I assume (based on the clip placement) that it has a retractable nib. No?

Thanks,

Mike

My kneejerk answer used to be the Mb Semiramis. I still like the pen, and I still make a point of holding it and looking very closely at it whenever I have the chance (which is not often), but it's no longer necessary even in my imagination to own it.

I have plenty of excellent pens. Some of them could be considered "grail," except that I own them, so by definition... you see, not "grail."

Eventually, I want a custom Danitrio. Or Nakaya. I have a theme in mind. But having the theme suffices. For now, anyway.

Ultimately, I would love a custom Nakaya or Danitrio, but right now I don't have the money or the perfect design to do it. I have, however, been lusting over this gorgeous custom Nakaya (photo from their website):

It makes the Retro51 Cioppino (which I think is lovely) seem clumsy in comparison. Not surprisingly, it's a fraction of the cost of the custom Nakaya:

We share the same grail mate. Missed two of these over the last 18 months but always having a look.

This is going to prompt me to start another topic shortly.

Here is what I currently consider my "Grail" pen. It is a Nakaya Decapod, with the two-tone brown/green. I really like the finish of the pen, and how the brown fades over time to reveal more green as you use it.

Oooh! Raden Piccolo Cigar... I've been trying (in my head) to find a way to incorporate some personal customisation into that design...

I have one of those (a writer - with clip - and a John Mottishaw flexible medium cursive italic). It is, quite simply, epic.

Too many pens; too little writing.

Well then, I am quite envious! One of these days, I will have one. Just not now. I have bigger things to worry about financially :P

My grail pen is a Pelikan M800 IB 1.5mm Green Striated (Italic nib straight from factory) that I purchased a couple months ago.

Since then, it's my every day pen, and I'm using every time: for note, prescriptions, study...

For me, my M805 with an EF nib. I have about a dozen pens including the Lamy 2000, A Pilot VP, Lamy Studio, Pilot Knight, a Parker 51, and a vintage Mont Blanc 25 with an italic nib. But the one I truly love to write with is the M805. It's the pen with the mojo.

Do you like Thrillers? Read The El Morro Connection. You can find it on Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble.com in the ebook section. Soon it'll be available in hardcopy. It's written by C. Clayton Lewis. And that would be me. Let me warn you, don't start reading it the night before you have to get up early...

My two grail pens were the Yard O Led Retro Grand and the Conway Stewart Churchill in Brackets Brown. I have both now :cloud9: and my pen buying has stopped, well almost. I'd love a CS Bard in woodgrain ebonite but with two expensive pen buys under my belt this year, it'll have to wait a while and I really am very content with (many) the pens I have.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
